Does anyone want some bantams? I am selling three golden sebright hens and one rooster. They are about 8 months old but not laying yet, I am wondering if my other hens are stressing them out. We have about 50 hens and these bantams are so little next to them....dont know if thats the reason or now. We bought them about a month ago and got one egg from them so far, the guy we bought them from hatched them and said they were laying for him just fine. He said he would reimburse us and take them back but he never showed up when we planned to meet. jerk.

made me so mad. We also bought some wyandottes from him, they seem to be laying just fine.
Any ideas? or any takers?
We pick up our three newest farm members today, three nubian goats. two in milk one who was just born in Feb, Im so excited, I feel like a little kid getting a new kitty

Aww I'd love them. My daughter's sebright died when it was 2 weeks old, she was so upset! Where are you located?

Wow, what a mess in my coops and runs thanks to all this rain! The runs are full of mud puddles and the coops are almost as bad. We had just cleaned them out and laid fresh straw, now all that straw is soaking wet. Aric is trying to catch up on all the yard work while the sun is out because now it looks like we live in a jungle and since I can't use my left hand, cleaning the coops will have to wait til later today. All my white ducks are brown, I feel so bad for them. But the one thing I hate the most - duck water + rain water! Our hillbilly water draining system definitely takes Aric's help lol

I'm happy for you Stacykins...I remember exactly that feeling when I moved for a job to Clearwater, Florida. No place for a farm girl. You feel like you can't breathe! Moving is a lot of work however....don't envy you that!

I'm so excited for you! We used to live in Marquette and I really LOVE it up there! So different than south east Michigan and the people are so sweet in da up. Have fun with your move!

Our chicken run is sopping wet. I can't keep up with the straw either! I finally gave in and threw a big, ugly blue tarp over the whole thing. The chickens were much happier, although it looks pretty hillbilly.

I bought a yokohama rooster and hen (who was sitting on eggs, but the guy kept them) this weekend. They are beauuuutiful! But... when I was moving the hen from the transport cage to a "quarantine" pen, she jumped up and FLEW away!

I looked for hours, and finally spotted her. But she flew off again. I tried last night with a flashlight, but no luck. I am heartbroken. I don't know if I will see her again. I thought the rooster's crowing this morning might attract her, but he was silent. They are supposed to be pretty quiet, but now is when I NEED him to vocalize! He'll get his wings clipped today. Wish me luck in finding her- I'm so sad.

Henny, you could try placing the rooster in a cage outside and see if that will attract her.

Keyt, I think you'll find that wood shavings are much easier to deal with. They absorb moisture better, easier to dispose of.

our chicken run is getting over run with grass and weeds, we only had one spot that looked like it might get muddy so I put down a bunch of pine shavings and chips and its just fine, I think I caught it just in time.

I had a lady call (off of the craigslist post for the bantams) she offered to take them off of my hands for free, because she had bantams before and she would take care of them real nice...uhhh, no thanks..she sounded like a loon. is 25$ too much to ask for three hens and a rooster (all golden sebright bantams)

Also, how can I tell if my wyandottes are laying? I cant tell the difference between her eggs and the barred rocks eggs. My RIR's are laying machines! I only have five RIR's and I am getting 6-8 eggs a day from them. love it!
