Shedding seems to be a more appropriate term for them!

They have fur more than feathers.
They do hold a lot of dust too. I've watched them disappear in a cloud when they shake off after dust bathing. I wonder how well they would pick up household dust...

Congrats, Opa, you deserve it!!, what kind of chicks are you looking for sj3364, I have a 7 week old black Maran rooster you can have.

Congrats Opa! I don't know where it's posted either, but read it here. You most def deserve it!

Fife - Beautiful flowers and beautiful home and landscaping!

Since we have been talking about dogs. . . .

I RESCUED A HUMAN TODAY
Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels.
I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.
I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid.
As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage.
I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today.
Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.
As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone's life.
She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her.
Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship.
A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.
Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.
I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side.
I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.
I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. There are so many more to be saved. At least I could save one.
I rescued a human today.

Opa, congrats on your award, you deserved it!

Chickmate, I loved the poem.

sj3364, what kind of chicks are you looking for?

Sorry sj3364 but I have to post the pics of my new chicks that arrived today. My last order ended up being mostly cockerals so if anyone wants a Delaware cockeral, free, just pm me. Otherwise it will be freezer camp for most of them.

Evidently my computer refuses to believe it since it's not showing up here.

Here's an interesting discovery I made today. I have a digital thermometer and hygrometer in the new incubator I built. As a back up I have glass bulb thermometer already in it and today I wanted to add a backup hygrometer. I had the incubator open for less then one minute and get it registered a 5 degree drop in temperature and a 10% drop in humidity. I knew there would be a drop yet I was surprized at how much it actually was. I'm sure this is why the experts make such an issue of not opening the incubator before the hatch is complete.

Congrats, Sam! You are a friend to all. I'm honored to call you my friend!

when I saw the post that BYC was giving out friend awards I instantly thought of OPA. That's so cool they picked someone from the Michigan Thread.

Once again I have too many roos. The Rabbits have gone to a farm for new breeding stock so they will at least be doing something other than being ignored by a DD. The ducks make me laugh every day. The cross gender confused hen is still mounting the others and ripping out their feathers. I kick her out of the run during the day to help give the other girls a break. The dog has been getting into the corn treats for the chickens and it does not agree with him. Yuk.

Have a restful night. The weekend is coming and work continues. A new month means another round of maintenance spraying and dusting.

To some it may sound hokey, but a long time ago I decided that each day I would try to be the nicest person people meet. Some days it does take a little more effort than others but I truly believe I have gotten back more than I have ever given. I am proud that many of you consider me a friend.
