Another morning is upon us and after how hectic yesterday morning was its kind of nice to be back to one I can sort of ease into.

I've got to go out in a little while and let the birds out and check on the two new birds I got yesterday. They are going to be great additions to my rainbow flock of laying hens. Since my egg production is being greatly affected by a spat of excessive broodiness with these being not far from laying they will fit right in.

Speaking of additions to the flock, I placed some delaware eggs under a broody hen and she immediately settled right in on them. So now I have two hens sitting on eggs. In a couple of days I will be receiving some Welsummer eggs from a BYCer in New York and I think I'll probably put them them under two different broodys. Since I have so many hens insistant on sitting in nest boxes I might as well put them to work. Not sure how I'm going to house all the new families but at least I have 3 weeks to figure it out. Anyone in need of Deleware or Welsummer chicks in the near future keep me in mind

Last night I placed the EE that one of my egg customers found in with the rainbow flock. It had been in quarantine for the last two weeks. This morning I will have to keep an eye on the flock to make sure they don't beat her up. Since the garden abuts their run it will be a good time to weed the garden.

Granny certainly enjoyed herself yesterday and I'd like to thank all of you who took the time to talk to her. Everyone one of you sure contributed to making one old lady feel good.

keyt1969 That blanket you made is so sweet - I didn't realize until I got home and laid it out that it looks like a big flower - Love it!

Let me know how that Marans does with babies - she has been sitting SO long to get them, I'm curious how she'll be as a mom.

theron - I have four of your babies (two GLS and two MFD) under a Java mama as we speak. Looks like eeveryone is happy and doing well.

By the way - Who brought the bantam frizzled cochins? Holy moly, those were cute. I picked up a red head, we named her Reba.

And at the last minute I decided she needed a friend, so we went back and got another, this one non-friz. My son gets to name her, we'll see what he comes up with. lol

I have a goose in my lap.

nuff said?

Somewhere between four and six my daughter went to her own bed and abandoned Penelope in the bathroom.
I tried taking her outside- oh look, Henry?
Henry is now a mute swan in the water.

Penelope cried and cried so I brought her back in so I can have my coffee.

I have a work seminar all day from 9 to 4 today. I will be thinking of yesterday; it will help get me through the boring parts.

Everyone have a wonderful relaxing day!

Oh My....I love the pictures and the stories.....sort of feel "out of the loop" but I will plan on making next years and maybe with the pictures I'm seeing will still be able to recognize friends even though I haven't met them!!

Bird quaranteen....think that I spelled that wrong but my question is this...if you bring home new birds...put them in quarantine (got it) for two weeks but the new bird was a Marek "carrier"....couldn't just having the bird in your yard period' still infect your own flock.???

I have read some real horror stories on BYC and figured the only SURE thing was to hatch every bird that you own ....but you would miss out on opportunities like Chickenstock provided.

I have to get in gear and get cleaned up for church so I won't go with feathers and chicken poo ....but will look at more of your pictures later! Looks like a beautiful day!!! So glad you had nice weather yesterday for the get together!!!

Woke up and all of my new girlies are doing good! We do have an escape artist (white maran) in the bunch who tried several times to break free yesterday but all seem calm this morning. I need to go out and get another feeder. The one I have is really dinky and the quarantined girls have managed to break it open.

Nigellas I got a frizzle too....hehe...super cute. They were going fast and by the time i got back from looking around there were only a few left. Hopefully this bugger isn't a boy but Kathy(?) told me she would get me a girl if that should happen. Sweet! I also bought my frizzle a cochin buddy. Now I just have to name them...

I heart them!! It was hard to get a picture of the black cochin, she kept following me around and walking toward the camera.

I had so much fun yesterday! It was great to meet all you Michiganders. And I was really impressed with the quality of the birds! Definitely not your average "swap meet". All my new girls are in their quarantine pens-except the one that spent the night in the house-in my bedroom-in a box-I'd, (my husband) would never let a chicken sleep with me

Thanks to everyone who made Chickenstock 2011 possible!
