Opa do you have a heated water dish for the chickens or do you use one of the black rubber bowls and knock out ice and fill with hot water? To save on electric DH wants me to try the rubber bowl method. How big a bowl? Is it really ok to fill with hot water??

I use a metal waterer sitting on a cookie tin with a light bulb inside of it for heat. This year I intend to replace it with a commercial heating base since it only operates below 40 degrees. If I were to use the rubber watering dishes they would have to been of a size and number to provide at least 8 ounces of water per bird. Hot water supposedly freezes quicker than cold for some reason people smarter than me have never adequately explained to me.

Strangely as normal as that is (my sisters had theirs out), I haven't had mine removed. Just my gall bladder, appendix, right kidney and female parts lol.

I'm seeing specialists for several things in the next month. Turns out I have 3 more serious conditions to add to the multiples I already had. It's a bit depressing, but people with Hydrocephalus are usually pretty sick individuals. I guess I just need to consider myself lucky to have lived this long when I wasn't supposed to!

Oh Keyt, so sorry to hear multiple troubles. I'll add you on my church prayer list K? whether you believe in HIM or not, HE believes in you. Hope everyone has a lovely last day before we have another awful 90* one on Friday. Looking forward to Sunday myself. Peace.

Probably one of the nicest things anyone has ever said about me. I'm humbled.

OPA is back!!! Yippee. Hope you had a nice rest!! just kidding. I know it was computer troubles.

My roosters are 19 weeks old now, are they doing the deed?? They are Buff Chantecler and I'm looking to rehome at least 2 of them. Not ready for tons of baby chickies. I posted on the Chantecler thread I'd be willing to drive up to 50 miles to rehome them.

Ok, Morning all! I have my coffee with yummy creamer!

My big guy wants to join 4H. I was told by several people that he can not join till he is 8-9... Boy does that make me so mad! WHY? Because I just went to the 4H website to make Jace happy, because he just KNEW that he could do it. And he was RIGHT! They let kids join at 5! They don't do competitive, but the do let the kids between 5-9 show their chickens, and have activities for them to join in at that age. SO what if he can not compete. He just wants to join, so why would you tell me that my kid couldn't join 4H when you are in 4H and you know D*&^ well that he can?!! Sheesh, start them young in 4H, and they will learn to have more respect for animals, learn more about farm animals... Good thing I am not a violent person... I'd knock them suckers out! I am going to chalk it up to theyre just worried that my Jace's silkie hen and roo would kick their chickens butt!

That said, I am thinking of putting big metal and screen butterflies all over the outside of my coop. Why? Only because I have them in the garage and they need to have something to do aside from sitting taking up space. SO its either recycle or decorate... I have an idea to paint a sun rise and flowers on the one side of the coop so that way there is something pretty to look at all year even in the snow months... SO, what type of paint? Only cuz I do not want it to affect the chickens breathing... I know, they are inside the coop, but I am one of the people that is paranoid that I might hurt my birds if I use the wrong material... SO waterbase or oil?
