Absolutely! Shooting for a pair of doelings! Once they're old enough to be freshened, they'll be milkers, as they are from amazing milking lines. I also plan on showing them, too.

Ohhhh will you be making cheese?? :: green with envy ::
Not liking the weather at all. I know I'm whining but from super nice to rotten in two days time is not enough to adjust. The winds are awful right now. My husband works for the road commission and was called in today to cut up trees on the road. So I am happy to be inside rather than out in the rain.
I was feeling sorry for the chickens stuck inside today so I took them out treats, or in other words cleaned out the kitchen. Left over ham, mac and cheese, stale bread, a few older eggs scrambled, drizzled with milk and threw in some diced beef fat/suet. They are so funny to watch when they get treats. Everyone grabs something and runs to hide and eat it. I did notice my favorite roo has been plucked again on his head. I have to go blue kote and duct tape his head. Poor guy whenever they are stuck in the coop he gets it.
Now I am making treats for the rest of the family. A dreary day like today could be improved by warm cookies from the oven.

We are making salsa right now, finishing up the last of the tomatoes from the garden. I feel sad for my chicks too. I did open the pop out to the run for them. They were out only for a few minutes to see if there were any treats available and back in they went. Too windy out here by us for them I guess, I know it is for me. Warm cookies do sound good, maybe once I'm done with the salsa I'll whip some up.
My oldest daughter is the baker in this house. She made oatmeal raisin cookies while I was out filling the front hay manger for the steer and water troughs for everyone else. It was definitely nice to come in from the wind to the warmth of the oven and smell of fresh baked cookies. We had a couple dead trees come down this morning so we'll have to cut those up later. Maybe I can convince her to make dinner tonight while we're working. At ten she's a good cook, but she does prefer baking. I'm the opposite, I prefer cooking.
finally FEELS like a fall day, oh so delish and fresh and brisk out there. Brought in my geraniums and asparagas ferns to over-winter, gonna grab the hanging begonias next. Have a delightful autumn day everyone.

They can't stop fighting until you allow them to establish their pecking order. Squabbles are normal when two animals meet one another up close and personal for the first time. As long as there's room for them to move around and for whomever ends up on the bottom of the totem pole to retreat there is no reason to interfere with their natural order of working things out unless things get very, VERY ugly. That RARELY happens.
Well, I put Roger in the cat carrier again last night, in the big coop. Today When I let him out, Mr. Fluffers wasn't so bad about it, and Roger has figured out to keep clear. He is starting to hang around the out skirts of the flock while they are all out, so I am taking that as a good sign. Maybe I will not have to seperate him in the end... But for now, he will be in the carrier at night for his own protection. I would like to breed him to my silkie hens thou, and to do that, I will have to have them in their own run/area that Mr. Fluffers can not get into, SO, it might be better to put them in their own coop as soon as Roger is used to being with them all, and they with him.
WIND! Oh man, I have never seen a dog love leaf piles as much as my two! I have had several dogs, and they all have loved to stick their noses and search, but I swear these two I have now... They dive bomb the piles! I have a huge pile that accumulated just outside my deck slider, and they love it. Of course now I have leaves all over the kitchen floor. Good thing the boys are gone with daddy and Grandma Frances to GR and Grandville Mall for a few hours. HOUSE WORK TIME!
