How and why is it that when I've finally given up and taken a request to buy BA's off my signature someone has some? And now there are people waving JG pullets in my face (another breed I desperately want)? Oh the humanity! Sadly, I promised DH "No more chickens in the basement!" Our shed/coop isn't built yet so I would have no where to quarantine just yet but I'm not having a good day and that makes it that much more depressing. My poor ISA's just can't keep up with the demand...

I took the funniest picture of one of my silkies....lol! She looks stoned!

There are really small incubators that are made for just a few eggs -- I think Brinsea makes one for like 6 eggs -- the problem as others have mentioned is that if you have a bad hatch rate and then lose a chick or two you often end up with a lone chick. You might be better off to borrow an incubator from someone who has one and who is able to provide for the chicks that hatch and then just give the whole lot of it back once you're done.

I can provide for them, but I just don't need 20 of them....lol My family has a farm, and they would go to them.

Whoops! Sorry. I've had BA for a long time and could have gotten you some any time. I tend to skim over signatures though. I never noticed your request there.

M.sue :

Has anyone ever taken pumpkins, scrapped the insides out, guts and all and froze it for later use through the winter....for a chicken snack that is.

no, but I did scoop up and freeze ziplock bags full of the surplus June Bugs we had this early sumer. They're all gone now, what a treat those are. I've also recently chopped tiny perch and white bass into bite size pieces and froze them for the chickens next summer. They do like frozen zucchini also, always lots extra of that.

The insides are the best part, especially the seeds which have anti-parasitic properties. And pumpkins don't have to be frozen to be stored if you have an insulatd garage or basement you can just keep them cool and dark like potatoes or apples.

Great...even less work for me! We have plenty of room in our basement which is always cold all year round due to it being 15 blocks deep.

ChicwannaB.........I gave my girls the June Bugs too this summer...I swear we were hit by the plague a couple times. As for freezing them...that's a possibility. I'd have to store them in the garage freezer. Don't think I'd want them in the freezers in the house.....Some one might eat them....LOL!!
