ksl42 - Does you husband work at the Fair Haven Elevator? Sounds like the three Jersey Giants I just mentioned above! I'm assuming you are a woman, which may be wrong. I asked him if he was on BYC and he said no, he does all the building and hard labor and his wife does the research, etc. on the chickens.

Jenerva - yes, that's my husband! Small world! Actually it's the New Haven Grain Elevator he's at. He just started working there a few weeks ago. He's been out of work for 3 years. We did sell the pullets tonight. Finally, someone showed up that said they were going to come!

Yeah, he gets to do all the hard work to take care of the chickens and build new quarters for them. I have all the fun on BYC (I'm a lurker, hardly ever post). I don't have the strength or balance to carry the waterers for everyone. And then when winter comes, I can't get out there because I'm afraid I'll slip and fall. I have problems with my feet. I'm diabetic and have neuropathy in them. He's been very good about taking care of all of them. I get all the ideas of how to do things and then discuss plans with him, and then I'm real good at supervising the projects. Now he's trying to adapt to getting things done around the house and with the birds now that he's back working almost full time. It's taking a lot of readjusting and we're still working on it.

If we're able, we plan to have more chicks to sell in the spring. Heritage Rhode Island Red, Black & Blue Jersey Giants, BLRW, Buff and BBS Orps. Keep us in mind if you're looking for any new chicks next spring.

Right now, we have 7 Muskovy ducklings (black & white) that a mama surprised us with just about a week ago. We can't keep any more ducks over the winter. If anyone is interested, they are only $4. They are just a week old and I can't believe how much they've grown already. So cute! Send me an email if you want pics.

ksl42 - It IS a small world! I did mean New Haven but Fair Haven got stuck in my mind. Your husband is such a nice guy. He was very helpful at the Elevator and once we started talking chickens and coops he even invited me to stop by your place and see your set up. I fell in love with the little bob-tailed kitten that lives in the store. Your hubby also gave me a name and number for the person who processes your chickens so when the time comes I can call and make an appointment to have mine done. I am definitely going to want chicks in the spring but not sure what breed yet. I DO love my ISAs! Sweet girls and huge eggs every single day. I was going to get more French Black Copper Marans, but not sure now. I hate that I have to ask this, but what are BSL's? I know RaZ has them and talks about them, but I can't figure out what breed it is. As soon as someone tells me I'll think "of course!", but gotta ask.

Thanks Hillbilly! Well, there you go, I didn't think "of course!" because I never thought of Black Sex Links!!

I probably wouldn't have known either but I used to have one. Lost her due to laying internally.

We processed our extra Delawares and boy did they dress out nice for just being around 20 weeks.

hahaha yeah, giving away FREE because they're the worst birds ever!!!

We were laughing today with our neighbor about how they're a terrible bird and we couldn't understand why some people love them. No one would buy mine even at $3 a piece when i wanted to go to chickenstock, then a guy who was just getting into chickens offered $20 for all 8 and I was SO excited!!! Aric hated those birds and he's the chicken fan!!

We do love the Araucanas we got from Aric's friend and another lady. They're all Araucanas but all look so different! Now if only I knew why we only get 1-2 eggs out of 30-some chickens a week!! I realize it's getting into winter but that's ridiculous! Today I walked into the barn when Aric was getting upset (not really) with them and lecturing them. I just stood there watching and trying not to laugh. It was hilarious!!

Just a question for all of my fellow Michiganders. Does anyone know of a Silkie Breeder who would be willing to sell hatching eggs? I need a just a FEW more.

ETA: If you are a breeder or know of one, PM me for info. If in the southwest region I would be willing to do a pickup. Thanks everyone!
