Many thanks to Taprock and chicken grandma! Taprock gave me a Dr. with phone number(MSU) who told me via phone how to take tests for Ms and Mg. (blood is needed or a swab from throat).

Chicken grandma I will call the T.C. vet tomorrow and see what she says. I think that most likely the most economical way to test is to do the throat swabs. I can swab the throats of the 3 I KNOW had the symptoms (two of which roosters...sure THAT will be fun). I then will mail them in a clean baby food jar to the address I have yet to get but is on the site animalhealth.msu.edu

One thing Dr. Mick Fulton did tell me is that although it sounds like I am on the right track and it is probably a infectious disease....sneezing ISN'T always due to a contagious virus. Sometimes it is from dust. A ray of hope.

Thank you!

Ooohhh yeah.....I just bought some homemade soap this past weekend from Pond Hill Farm in Harbor Springs. What scents did you make yours?

Best wishes to you fife. Hello to newbies. I just spent 20 minutes carrying birds from their outside roost to the inside roosts. Sloshing through the mud and oh what fun.

A great big thank you to Chickengrandma, First picking up and delivering stool samples to her vet. Got out of work early today and was able to get an apt. at grandmas vet. we have coccidia and stongyles. I need to get Fenbendazole for the stongyles Vet said I should be able to get both for the water. the easiest way to administer. I stopped at TSC in Lowell they didn't have the kind to put in the water. I thought some of you used the Fenbendazole paste on your chickens. If that is right can you tell me how much?
Every one has been so busy, welcome new MI. BYC'rs. hugs to all those with sick chicks. It is no fun.
Stacykins your soap looks so nice. one more thing I would like to try. List of things to do when I retire is adding up

Yikes! So I'm some sort of a poultry pervert?

Since they were wee chicks, they have been handled regularly, petted on their backs and crops. I've done the same with my dogs and cats. I figure that if they are used to being handled then any problems that arise that require a physical exam will be less stressful to the animal.

I don't think your a perv. I do it to mine too but mostly just to continue to assert myself as the rooster. I think it's a waste not to take advantage of their submission. I think it's really important to have hens that are easily handled. I have 2 female ducks that act like I'm an axe murderer and let me tell you that catching them to clip their wings is stressful for them because they aren't used to being handled. So, I'll stick to being a creep with the hens because it can't hurt.

I do the same thing. I stroke their back then rub their tail. I then ask my hens of it was good for them. They get up and shake out just like a rooster mounted them. lol too cute. Proud to be a perv!
