On the news last night they said we should expect our first accumulating snow fall of the year tomorrow night in Mid-Michigan. If the temps stay warm-ish it'll only be an inch or two, if they drop quickly during the day however, it could be "much more". I suppose it was inevitable but man was I ever enjoying this indian summer.

Jen - Does Sandhill have nice RIR? I'm planning on placing an order after the new year for spring chicks from them...

Franklin - Vicki2x2 is not far from you and is very into the show circuit. You could try PMing her.

If anyone knows anyone that has or knows of someone that has a dog house of some kind they want to get rid of, I will gladly take it. I am trying to find something to work for a coop for the winter for my silkies.

Thanks in advance.

Two shows in Michigan One spring and one fall put on by; Michigan poultry Fanciers. If you go to Fowlfest.org you will find info about the spring show.. Hope to see you their.

Thanks for the tip. Will try to check it out.

What about county fairs? Is that a valid way of getting judging and evaluation of your birds? Does anyone have any pros or cons for exhibiting at fairs? I know the Jackson County Fair you don't get to take care of your own bird, and it sits there all week in someone elses care....

Do the fairs allow independent exhibitors? Up here all the Co fairs are associated with the 4-H.

Welcome to the newcomers!

Jen, Would you be interested in German New Hampshires? I do plan on hatching in the spring. And since you mentioned it, has a date been suggested yet for next years chickenstock???

I can not reserve a date until January for chickenstock. I assume it'll be in June. Seems to work out good weatherwise.

Wait, I can tell you when Chickenstock is going to be... it's always the Saturday in June on which I am the busiest.

Olive Hill

As far as I know, Jackson Co. Fair still has an open exhibition barn. Come to think of it, it's been a couple years since I've even picked up an entry book... boy does time fly!! Hillsdale County fair is still REALLY agricultural, they have open poultry. They even still have tractor pulls and sulky cart racing! Neat old-timey fair to go to! Now that I'm back into birds, I'll have to look into the Jackson Fair again and make sure that they didn't discontinue the open poultry barn.

Talk about Chickenstock sounds fun....I was unable to attend last years but I am planning on attending 2012.....POST THE DATE IN BOLD! I met Chick Flick and Krisrose at Fowlfest which was nice to put faces with names & aviatars!!
