Chickens as Chick Magnetics....hmmm....I'll have to tell my nephew. When my son was a baby my teenage nephew use to always want to hold/push him while we were out shopping. I liked it because it helped me & then I asked one day....Why do you always want to carry him around? His reply "Don't you know babies are Chick Magnetics. Girls see a cute baby and they can't resist coming over to see." He's a good conversation starter......Boys will be boys!!

YEAH, oh how the Lord provides!! I've b een worrying about what I'll do when all my ladies are finally laying cuz I've only got one person who stops by and gets eggs from me. Thought I'd have to thin down my flock to what he buys and me and DH can use, ...well just this morning a lady pulled in the driveway asking for 2 dozen. She'd been having trouble finding anyplace with fresh eggs till she stumbled upon me. And I was just setting last night making a sign to put in my van window for when I travel to town!!
Also I just caught one of my unlaying pullets finally setting on a nest, one of the RIR I raised as a day old. YIPPEE.

Yeah...Yeah...YEAH:weee

Hi everybody!!! *waving*

I hope everyone is doing well. I have been keeping myself busy- way too busy, not enough time in the day. In 23 days the holidays will be over and I will function better.

I had three broody hens up til yesterday. Now I have two. The one decided yesterday that she was done sitting eggs, after two weeks. The other two are sitting tight on fertile eggs. Has anyone had success with hens raising babies in the winter/snow/blizzards-that-cometh?
Chickens must think its Spring. The broody that came off her eggs yesterday left eight eggs, but I didnt discover it til they were freezing cold this morning.

I have had an ad up on Craigslist for this turken rooster for quite some time, and have had a couple people show interest and then just stop emailing.

He has definitely been doing his job, as shown by the fertile eggs under my silkie girls. Someone emailed me today that just said, "Price?" nothing else.

I hope you are all doing good, and have a great weekend.

Miss seeing you on here, MOM!! Stop by more often. Hope things are going well for you. Know it's been tough lately, but you got lots of friends on here.

More snow/rain suppose to come. Yipee.... right.

Good Morning!

I have a crazy chicken related story. This morning my DH was called into work, he works for the road commission so I knew it was slippery out. I had to drop my niece off at her boyfriends, son at play practice and two roosters to my brother's who was going to butcher them today. One rooster went in a cage in the back and my son held the other because he wanted to say goodbye. It was slippery out so we went the less hilly way. Needless to say it didn't help, we rolled our Kia and ended up on our driver's side in a wet swamp. I got out, got my niece unbuckled, and cut my son out of his seat belt. My son was upset because Tilly the rooster he was holding was gone and he figured crushed under the car. The other rooster Meringue was still in the cage in the back. I helped them climb out with only a few cuts. So here we are standing in the rain waiting for police, tow trucks and my DH....and we hear Tilly crowing from the woods.

I didn't even try to catch him, he runs away in the coop and I wasn't up to chasing through swamp.

Everyone is ok! As my dad is driving away with my son and the one rooster, my son is in tears because Tilly is lost in the woods. My thought was Tilly knew what was going to happen and decided to take his chances with the coyotes!
Pictures a bit blurry but I think I was still shaking a bit at the time.

My DH is talking to the insurance people and asks what we get for the rooster that was lost. The lady said she didn't know but would check.
