chickmate, if you don't separate your broody the other hens will lay more eggs in her nest. she may move over to another nest if she goes out and comes back in. if you can separate it is much easier

Last winter my flock was mostly Polish with just a few others. This year I'm about half Polish and half "other". I think I have 13 different breeds out there right now. Anyway last year in the winter I could leave the door open when I fed them and no one even looked outside. This year I have chickens running out into the snow, even the guineas that hated the snow last year. I am just amazed to see them running around in the snow, and I love the little tracks they leave everywhere! Yesterday I gave them a block of homemade suet my son did up. It was gone by this morning! I take it they like it, now we just need to make up some more.

On vaccines, I had already decided if I hatch out chicks I will be vaccinating them for Merecks (advice from MSU) and maybe more. Since you can not get rid of the cocci in soil I was told I could vaccinate for it so that it would not be a problem. My chickens free range so they go all over. This would also take care of any issues of possible infection if I gave some chicks to a friend, however, now I am not able to find the vaccine. Has anyone seen the vaccine available?

I worked more on the fence today, before it started raining. We had to move some of the T-posts, as my dad showed us where our land boundaries are, wow our land is longer than I thought! So, we have to put the T-posts ON both sides of the ravine. We have 5 arces, but its very narrow, like a ruler.

Our 5 months old puppy loved the woods, she sampled and chewed just about every stick and small logs that she could find.

Here she is supervising us while we are working in the ravine on the fencing for the cattle.
