Sorry for the incubation losses, ChickwannaB! Its heartbreaking when it happens. I went through a very bad incubation experience last year- couldnt get anything to hatch. Several batches. I bought a new thermometer and hygrometer, and replaced my incubator. Its so sad when it doesnt happen, but so exciting when it does- don't give up. Try again.

The two chicks that I have in the living room seem to be growing well- One of them is zooming around in their cage right now, practicing flying- or perhaps pretending someone just electrocuted it. They are very tame, compared to the Mama Hen's babies. Those scatter and hide under Mom as soon as I walk too close. Knowing my luck, the two in the house will end up being roosters.
I had one hen outside doing the EGG SONG- correction- The Egg Yodel at 4:45 a.m. Hopefully that doesn't become a habit! Maybe she has just become -eggconstipated and it was supposed to be yesterdays egg.

Everyone have a great day- I must go get ready for work...and daydream about seed catalogs and chick orders...

Good Morning. It's gonna be a warm one today and even warmer tomorrow. I'm liking this weather and might take advantage of it & give the coop a quick cleaning. I do hate to think of the storm when it decides to hit. You know were are bound to get a nasty storm at some point this winter for it is Michigan. My chickens had a field day yesterday free ranging. I had only got 4 eggs yesterday, my lowest count...must of been the cold, we'll see what the next couple of days bring.

Good morning all. Another day on the topside so life is good. The days are starting to get longer and before you know it will be Chickenstock once again.

I still need someone who would be willing to maintain the food list for our potluck lunch. Having a list that people can refer to when deciding what to bring will make it must easier for them to decide. It also keeps us from having 18 bowls of the same thing. Maintaining the list only requires that you check the thread daily and edit your original post to update the list. PM me for my number if you'd being willing.

It's an LG, no fan or turner, I turned myself and charted everything, time, temp, humidity, tho I chose to do DRY INCUBATION, based on everything I'd read seemd to be people had closer to 100% hatches that way. Not me. I did put some water in at Lockdown and it stayed aorund 55% after that. I just don't know. I read SO MUCH before I start the process. Very discouraging.
On a brighter note, at least 2 of the 12 I sent Keyt are peeping and knocking today!!

Good Morning! Looks to be a pretty day. I have another hen molting.

Of course, she was my every day layer.
Looking at my garden magazine and I'm looking at the grow houses and all I see is chick brooders! Got Chicken on the brain.

Hawk attack here this morning. It got a BLA. Not sure which one until I see who was spared.
I shot a few pictures but they might be too gruesome for some folks, so I'm not going to post them.

I loath hawks, one summer, I had lost over 30 young chickens to them.
