Mom, seriously what IS that bird crossed with??! I about died when i first saw it, but it kinda grows on you. VERY good for a "mom to them all" name; proves you really do love them ALL. I think it's great. reminds me of a cat that i had that was born with all huge mitten feet. It was seriously all feet, and trying to watch it walk..... it grew to be the smartest cat i ever had. Thought he was a dog, buuuuut.... yours probably thinks it is human soooo.... edited to add that said cat was albino, and nearly neeked, so looked like a mutant rat...But he grew to be beautiful.

I don't think my bumblefoot treatment is going to be good enough, after watching the video by a dozen girls. it is posted on the facebook byc. i was going to post the link, but i am not sure if that would be ok by her? anyway, it anyone needs to know how to treat bumblefoot, i highly recommend the video. It is VERY graphic, which is bad because it burns it into your permanent memory; but it is good because you will never forget it.

Seriously though, my beautiful Turken from Farmerboy crossed with I THINK my sizzle. If it has frizzled feathers then it definitely is the product of my sizzle and turken. If not- then it has to be one of the silkies. Because my frizzle doesnt have black skin and extra toes and neither did the turken...unless...

it is a cross between Keyt's cochin/silkie cross and the Turken..

From my experience eggs that have been frozeb and then hatched will result in chicks { ? } that look like T- (rex).

ES. I've never even tried to hatch eggs.

I think that freezing an egg would disrupt the quality of the yolk and white. Also,ova and sperm frozen for later use are frozen in special liquid carriers in liquid nitrogen, which freezes them so quickly that ice crystals that form in the cells are very small and less likely to damage the cells. They then have to be thawed in a controlled environment. Having said all that, I would love it if sometimes tried.

Well- I have eggs enroute from Ohio. They left on Tuesday.
I hopeeeeee they are not frozen.
I am sticking them in the incubator if they ever get here.

Lessons learned today while cleaning the coop:
1. When spreading pine chips, make sure your pant legs are uncuffed.
2. When dumping 150 pounds of feed into the big metal can, make sure it is place exactly where you want it to be for the next several weeks.
3. Chickens will try to drink the beer you left on the shelf.

Were those the only ones you bought from TS? I am wondering if you had a silent illness in your grown up flock and the new ones are getting it because they're stressed by the cold? If it is bullying, it could be the water supply they are fighting over too. Dehydration will kill birds quick. (especially the egg laying ones, because of the amount of water needed to make an egg) You could get some rubber dishes (under $10) and set out extra water here and there so the less agressive ones can drink freely. If $$$ is short used butter tubs work too, but they crack easy. I wonder about the water because of how quick she perked up. I would keep your eyes peeled for ANY thing different, just in case, because it is just that time of year and if there is something in your flock, now is the time it will show itself.

Thanks for your reply. The three that died were all from the same bin at TSC. So 50%...not a good sign. When the second one died this summer I called MSU and they told me it sounded like a gentic problem more than disease becaue of the length of time between deaths and the mysterious symptoms.


My Marans is fine. We have two waters but only one feeder. I think she was hungry. When I get back to MI toniht I am going to add another feeder. Hopefully that will solve some issues
