Another morning of waking with it still dark and cold but the coffee is strong and hot so a good day is about to begin. Come sit a spell and join me for a cup before your day gets underway.

I need to head out to the grocery since I just used the last of the coffee. I'm can't believe that I somehow used the last can and hadn't replaced it. I usually buy 4 or 5 at once and as soon as we're down to 2 cans I buy more.

Im having a cuppa tea right now, hope you have a great day Opa, I'm going to start cutting the necessary pieces for a new brooder, going to make one of those Nellabean ones on kathyinmo's page...toodles...Chicwb

Good Morning everyone-

Sam, I used the last of our coffee this morning.

I wish so much that I had the weekend to regroup, relax and get ready for next week. Not gonna happen today. I have an appointment to get our taxes done at 10, and I work at 2.

Staff meeting on Monday- and I have not prepared the notes for my departments. SOOOO, looks like I will spend Sunday doing that.
Im going to try and meet up with Randy though, and give him a couple of these chicks.

Little Beeper is doing well, just slept for an half hour on my lap. I just put her back in her cage. I needed to fill my coffee cup. There are rules.

I am going to try and catch up on what I missed here yesterday now- I have no idea how many pages back my last post was.

I am pretty sure you all will agree that sitting in the yard, watching a flock of chickens is one of the best therapies there is!

Absolutely! I try to explain to others that my job is high stress, lots of death, and sadness- sitting out in the yard with the girls after a long day is absolutely therapeutic and almost essential to my well-being.

I suffer from cluster migraines, had a stroke, and high blood pressure. I havent had a cluster in years...*knock on wood*- and blood pressure is doing well. I know there are benefits- dont believe my doctor believes me, but thats okay. *my city wouldnt care, they are illegal here*

Sitting in the yard & watching a flock of chickens peck the ground as therapy.......YOU BET, IT'S THE BEST!! Helps me keep my sanity & clear my head after a long day hectic day!

The calves are so cute! Reminded me of a little story. One time my grandfather got a calf at an auction. He had a regular routine of pulling in the driveway & honking the horn for us to come running out. So on this one day he pulls in, honks the horn several times, we go running to see what he wants. He motions us over to truck to come closer. Look what I've got he said. So we peer into the cab of the pick up and low & behold.....he drove all the way back from the auction with the little calve laying in the passenager seat. A sight I'll never forget!

Good morning Michigan. Snowed 3-4" inches last night, so I went out and did some shoveling. May go ice fishing today, but only if we can borrow a shack - too windy to sit out. Had a little egg talk with the girls, I am still only getting 8 a day from 15 layers. Someone is not pulling their weight. One of my welsummers is not laying at all, I'm pretty sure.

Rbahmer, if your hen is getting thin you should try to break her. I usually put them in an open wire cage in the middle of the coop with their own food and water, and leave them there for a few days. Some people suspend the cage to allow more air flow around it.

Good Morning everyone-

Too Funny! I also will be headed to get some this afternoon!

Several more inches of new snow during the night and this morning. DH was called in but they said they were only plowing main roads. Doesn't sound fun driving because we live on a secondary road. I will try to spend the majority of my day inside sewing. Have a great day!

I went to the grocers last nite and STILL forgot coffee!

What a crapshoot of a nite. It rained and snowed! Cars were off the road and in ditches... You would think everyone forgot how to drive this morning... Its not like the return of winter after an 8 month hiatus... One guy looked like he just drove off the road. Maybe I am just being mean... I don't know. I have gone off the road before... My first car I ever got I got a few days before Christmas 91, it was an 81 Toyota Celica. Rear wheel, manual trnny. First snow storm I drove in, I spun it around and ended up in a ditch.my little sis was with me, and she says "can we do it again?". Thus my love of donuts history parking Elizabethan... And my respect for the gas pedal and the ability to drive slow. Accidents happen to the best of us... But a 4x4 is not gonna do squat if you drive offensively, not defensively. And we all know ice is not fun... Nor is the wet heavy crap that is falling right now. And 4x4s are what I saw off the roads every where. 7 4x4s and only 1 car... Amazing huh...

Well Neuf of my lecturing... I let the birdies out early today. No sign of the hawk... Hope the wind keeps him grounded... Everyone headed for the garage... If I had a car in there, it would not be pretty. As it is, its become chicken poo central. Even with the cardboard down... They seem to poop in the dangdest places... Omg...

OH! And the chicks... How the world do I stop the food waste? Seems more food comes out of the chick feeder and ends in the litter... I put the feeder up on a 10 inch wide board, the just knock it off... I leave it on the shavings, it ends up full of shavings... And no... They are not cleaning up the ness either. Lol... Kinda like my boys. Lol. So, what should I try different?

OH, Bob, I have 2 broodies... I put food right in there faces, even was hand feeding the one several times a day to make her eat. I am taking the silkie hen off the eggs 2x a day, feeding her chick feed with 24% protein along with fruit and nut blend wild bird feed, which has18% protein. Its expensive, but its keeping her weight up enough. She is very boney too. Was super tiny to begin with.
