For the Handy types out there -

I hear a low humming noise that has a slight pulse to the hum.(yes, other folks can hear it also!)
Can't pinpoint it to an appliance at all.

Had the electric company check the outside - and they said the outside is o.k.

Had the furnace guys check the furnace and tried turning the funace and fan off. Low pulsing humming continues so it is not the furnace.

Can't pin point it to the gas box or electric box specifically.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I had a similar thing happen. There was a definite buzz that came and went. It was driving me crazy that it would come and go. Turns out it was a loose globe on my ceiling fan. Check the little screws that hold the globes in place.

Well, I just went outside and looked at the electric meter. The guys from the electric company came out and put a new glass case on it and changed some things.
Wonder if that will have an effect.

I'm a mechanical engineer turned biologist. Mostly useless skills, so I don't think I can help you.

Opa, is it Volk oil spray that you use in the late winter?

Thanks Opa, do you know much about using soap on the trees?
If the trees were heavily infested with spider mites that would work but not for much of anything else. Orchard spray will do and much better job and if takes care of many fungi that soap wouldn't even start to address. While I try to avoid using chemicals the reality is that if you want nice blemish free apples you almost have to.
Opa Thanks for that info. I assume that the spray that you spray on at this time of year is just a dormant season oil?
See above

Refrigerators are are often the culprit. Try unplugging it to see if that is the problem. The next thing I would check would be dimmer switches. Feel to see if they are hot. Then move on to outlets. A loose wire in a wall socket could take on a harmonic vibration. I recently had a problem with a duplex outlet in the floor of my family room. Found that the insulation on the wiring was melting. Could have easily had a fire.

I will sometimes get a hum... I have no figured it out either. I narrowed it down by slowly going from room to room till I found the loudest source. Turned out to be a part of my furnace. There is a box on the wall with a switch on it. That will make a loud hum off and on. Its a 2 yr old furnace. The furnace guys that installed it told me its nothing, just need to flip it like a fuse... I don't get it...

Welcome b737... Can I ask if you want to start with chicks? If you wait till chicken stock, if you go, you could more than likely score with older pullets. You'll skip the heat lamp, dust every where stage. AND you can be sure of getting pullets and not cockerels if you can't have roosters... Also, I love my wyandottes. They are hardy girls. I also love my faverolle. Those are very docile and sweet. I also have had white leghorns. My dogs... Anyway, best layers and friendly birds. My leghorns and dottes got on very well. I got my faverolle, and they all get on good. I also have 2 black Cochin bantam mutts, 2 silkies, and 19 mutt babies, most being faverolle crosses. My fav roo does not like the silkies to much tho. The other chickens do not have problems.

This is my first year also. Come June I think, it will be a year that I have had them... Not all, but that's when I started.
