So Chicken Grandma what you are saying is you don't eat your chickens? Right? I don't want to eat my chickens just the eggs the family think I am nuts

Kimmie
I loved my leghorn named Lossie.

We found her on the side of the road in Hawaii. She had been in an egg farm just outside our town. Clipped beak and feet damaged from the cage and her feathers were so matted we GASPED out loud. The egg farm used to sell the older chickens to local people for eggs or meat and chances are she got loose somewhere in the transaction.

My daughter picked her up and held her in her lap on the way home. We took her to the vet, treated her for assorted problems and then bathed her which sent her into shock. I put her under a heat lamp and sat next to the cage in my house for a day talking to her. My kids brought lots of bugs in from outside which she loved.

She then became our pet chicken, sitting on the chair next to my kids on the computer. Walking around the yard with the kids. Took years for the feathers to fall out and come back in right. She loved to dust bathe. She loved to sit on the lawn chair with me. I thought of her as 'my' chicken. She was a really good layer of pretty white eggs. She wasn't fussy at all.

We shipped her to Michigan and after 3 days of travel, she hopped out of the box, ate, drank and laid an egg! Once we took her to Chowhound pet store because she was so muddy and gave her a bath. As I carried her out of the store in a towel, we showed her to all the kids who gathered around. Lossie just loved kids. She was just fearless.

One day two years later my daughter shouted to me from the coop. Lossie had dropped off the perch. I picked her up and held her and she looked right in my eyes. I said, 'it'll be o.k. Lossie-girl; we love you.' She quietly passed away and I was so grateful to have had her in our lives and so grateful that I could take care of her until her last day.

As you can see, we treasured each and every chicken that we owned!

It is still lightly snowing here at the mid pinky of our mitten state. I ran out of bird food for the wild ones so I decided to share some of the chickens scratch with them. Tractor's chick days Ads need to have a disclaimer on them that reads "Enter at your own risk" or "Chicken Math may take effect" .

Congrats!! Can you cancel your order from ebay or do you still want them?

Oh well I tried to use the multi quote buttons but with dial up it doesn't work, darn. I don't know what I was going to comment on now. We have lots of snow here and I silly me tried to walk out to the compost pile, thinking I could and got stuck in the snow!!!!! In my PJ's my boot was slipping off I didn't know what to do, I told my hubby to watch for me in case I got stuck, I guess he thought I was kidding. So there I was in my PJ's with my silly cattle dog wanting me to toss the ball yet again and all I wanted was to get back to the house. I left my composting out in the snow and unstuck myself, my legs were soooooo cold. I guess I got to get the shovel out, but we are suppose to get in the fifties Monday. I just want the snow to go away!!

I found a custom t-shirt on ebay for $12 free shipping all sizes anything we want on it here's the link

I can't wait for my little chickies when I get back from Arizona and California

This was taken earlier this winter but we even have more now, I live 1/2 mile back in the woods on a private trail, my hubbies plow won't go up and down oh boy now what.

Me and my silly dog playing in the snow, I was trying to take a pic of us, she had other evil plans like knocking me in the snow.

People eat their chickens? lol We have our chickens mainly for their egg production but when the time comes, we will cull ours, eat them and replace them. My children at first thought how mean but that is one of the reasons we decided to get them for and that is how it was when I was growing up. We never thought nothing of it when we sat down to dinner & chicken was being served. We love our flock, tend them, care for their needs & pamper them more than others we know who have chickens but they are chickens with a purpose. They are our livestock / so called pets. They provide us with endless hours of entertainment but were not intended to be the kind of pet our dog is. Everyone has a different reasoning & out look. Just my thinking....Different strokes for different folks!

Well, wish me luck....leaving for TSC in a few!
