Oh my... a fro huh? Go RaZ!

Anyhoo... I just had the grape frenzy. Grapes are/were on sale at Meijer this/last week... can't remember when, but I bought a bunch since my Aiden loves them, and my chickens go batastic when I give them some. My neighbor has never given his grapes... Or peas. He didn't know they liked them. Well anyway I chopped a bunch of those jumbo greens up and brought them out for EVERYONE. Leila's chickies were the fastest at the dash and grab. They'd run in under the biggies, grab the grapes right from under them, and run away! I swear, If I were having a bad day, that would have solved it.

I love those ducks RaZ. And btw. I liked the gnome too.

I think I have decided that the Polish are causing more trouble than they are at earning their keep...

Don't blame those poor Polish -they're innocent I tell you, innocent!

...although rather flighty, not reliable layers, loud...but their cuteness makes up for it.

I have sand but it's over dirt and wire mesh since I use the deep litter method. I've piled straw on top of that. In April I'll scoop it out, usually a bunch of clumped up sand comes with it. I do it again in October. Don't know about bad bacteria but it doesn't smell so I figure I'm doing okay. Probably need to add some sand this spring, I have to step lower every 6 months it seems. Good thing I live on a hill of sand.

I have some sand over cement. I had a leak by the door which always made the bedding nasty and wet. So I made a frame to keep the sand where I wanted it. Come spring when I clean the coop out I will take it out and then decide if I want to put fresh back in.

Our TSC opens tomorrow but I won't get to go "visit" until Monday.

I started out the day the same way too, but as soon I went out the door, the cold, cold wind nearly blew me away! I decided it is too cold and windy to work outside. I did not do any work outside until 2 o'clock, when the sun came out. Now, I am inside to warm up for a bit. I am tired of the wind!!

Let's talk plants for a moment:

For those of you with African Violets, I have a check list of getting your plants ready for showing. Even if you don't show, there is good info for keeping them healthy and flowering.

A few people were talking about willows; I did some pruning on my "golden" willow and saved a bunch of shoots for rooting. Anyone who wants some can have them at ChickenStock.

I might also have some other plant starts as well. Raspberry, fish-bone cactus, aloe, zebra grass and some native big-blue stem, little blue stem and native prickley pear cactus.

I also make rain barrels if that strikes your fancy. PM me if you are interested.

My hens go NUTS over grapes, and yes, I got mine at Meijers a few weeks ago. There's nothing they like more than grapes as a matter of fact. Gotta get some more. My grape vines only held out so long last fall, lol! Did you say your ducks like them? I have ducks - they just appeared in a brooder today!

Magic ducks? They just appeared? Wow!

Last year I had a few pekins and they went nuts for peas. I tried peas with these little mallards and the same response. Peas must be like crack for ducks.
My hens also like peas but they could care less about grapes, but I didn't cut the grapes into bite size pieces. The big hens go nuts for cantaloupe though.

One nice thing about having poultry is that I'm eating better stuff just so I can justify giving the birds good treats.
