Just took my weekly chicken diary pics. I wont show you guys all of them, they're not as cute anymore lol. (I mean, if you want to see the whole flock I will post them

) But here's a pic of the unlikely chicken that became my favorite. I didnt even want a "boring white chicken" at first...

She has the best personality of all of them, loves to be held. And she's so white!! I think she'll be pretty when she's full grown.

I LOVE my white chickens. I had the best Leghorn, Miss Legs... My dogs killed her though. She was awesome. I am hoping that TSC gets some white leghorns... FFH has california greys.... BUT I want white

I got mine from TSC, they had a bunch when I got those. Not sure about your store though, they must not have the same kinds at all of them around here; I thought they might.

HH...love the brooder! I did think about a buddy chick, but FFH didn't have any breeds left that I wanted. Just found homes for my first round of buddy chicks. I put a stuffed toy in there before I left this morning and she snuggled right up to it....hopefully that works for now.
We had a single chick and it has been a blessing. She is so friendly and after a year still comes when I call her. She loves to be carried around the yard and falls asleep in my arms. We kept an old towel next to her box and she got held a lot! After the first month I put her in with some chicks. She was scared to death for about three days but did fine afterward.

Nova - people with perfectly clean houses either have way too much time on their hands or can afford a maid. There are just not enough hours in a day
to keep a house clean when there are kids involved. We never had a colored tv but thanks to Elmo's influence we had lots of drawings on walls.

Sarah - that sounds like me - after being checked out a few times I have determined it is hormones and stress - usually both. But until you know for sure be careful.

I didn't get much done today, had to run my son for his allergy shots which throws off my motivation! I knew I was getting low on food today so I was skimpy with treats today. Every time I went out into the yard I had the whole flock underfoot trying to beg treats. I kept tripping over chickens and stepping on feet. I'll go get some feed and treats first thing tomorrow.

I have reached the point I don't really know without thinking and adding how many chickens I have.

I know how many belong in each section but haven't taken the time to add them up. Partly because I don't want to tell DH and if I add them up I have to admit how many there are.

fuzzybutt - I must have missed your original post about Rose. I had one hen bad off and the vet told me to mix karo syrup and water or pedialite and a crushed vitamin and give it to her. It kept my one hen alive for 3 days with me putting it in her by a syringe when she couldn't drink it. When she would eat we did like Nova and fed her scrambled egg. Hope she does ok.

I loved my white leghorn Lossie!! She was adorable and I had her until she dropped off the perch and died in my arms of old age. Lucky you, Sarah!

Sharing a picture I took of Eskaba yesterday while I was trying to figure out what was wrong with my auto-focus. I think she was fed up with the camera, lol.

Also, anyone good at identifying birds from a distance? Haha. I zoomed really far in on this one, and I think by the shape and the hue that is may be a Coopers Hawk. Anyone?

We took a 2 1/2 hour hike yesterday, and were accompanied by our cat Pipkin. For some reason, she spent almost the entire time with her tail puffed up and her mouth open. Not panting, just looking aggressive. I was starting to get pretty creeped out by the time we headed back, I wonder what was freaking her out?

She kept looking all around, and stuck close to the toddler the whole time, which is unusual. She normal skirts out and scouts around, or climbs up trees before rejoining us.

Edit - I guess I used a naughty word, oops?

How is Neil?

Hi chicken grandma.

Neil is doing good. He's such a sweet boy and so easy to handle. We still pen him separate from the main flock, but we put a few girls in with him to keep him company through the day. I tried to let him in the yard with all the others a week or so ago, but it didn't go so well between him and Newton so I decided it was best to keep them apart. I just got a new camera so hopefully I can get it up and running within the next few days so that I can take photos to post.

Right now he has them during the day only. DH has to build me another coop so until then Neil goes into his own personal pen at night. Once the 4wk old chicks are older, I'm planning on putting them together so he'll have a nice flock to protect full time.
