Eeyore.... Thank-you. Yes, would be nice to get them from people who understand our climate up here. I built a top bar hive. Do you have the regular supers? Is it too late in the season to get started? How are their prices? Sorry, I'm excited....can ya tell?

I looked into top bar hives but ultimately decided to just buy a couple of Langs. I may add a top bar later or just convert one of the Langs to one. (if this paragraph makes it sound like I know what I'm doing, I totally don't)

I hope he's got some bees left for you guys! I know when I called him several weeks ago he said he wasn't sure how soon he's sold out. Not sure about how the prices are comparatively as I've never bought bees (package or nucs) before.

On another note, I have to confess that every time I see you guys talking about your D'Uccles I read it as D'Uncles and I wonder where D'Aunts are.

I posted my picture earlier of my handsome Bootsie boys, the d'Uccles. They have always been best buds but this afternoon I find them just fighting full out. A while later my son comes in with Socks who has a swollen closed eye. I'm guessing injury but how do I know for sure it isn't a disease? I put him in the guinea pig cage but he's still in the coop.

I'm no expert, but that looks like a wound at the corner of his eye. Hopefully, it is just aggressive rooster play.

Quote: Also here in the swamp of WA we have a "weed" called plantain. When I am doing anything with the bees the first thing I do is locate some plants. Then IF I get stung I grab a leak and smash it to juicy. Then I rub it on the sting GONE!
Ya know ya could always put a decorative Tree trunk in yer yard. And if it had a hole in it and if bees moved in ....it's only NATURE!
OK sorry for the interruption we now return to your regular programming .

Huh, I know I selected several multi-quotes but nothing showed up, oh well, probably wasn't very important.

When I first moved to northern MI from northern VA (where ticks abound) I didn't see a tick for a least the first 8 years I lived here. Sometime in the last 4 years they've been popping up, for some reason I keep finding them attaching themselves to my stomach! I've gotten them before they got a good hold. But it's why I got guineas. Still have 5 and they've been free ranging a lot already this year, hope they're doing their jobs. Hope to collect some eggs and hatch a few once they start laying again reliably.

Dang this looks too short. Finally got my new cell phone yesterday and after a fruitless 45 minute call to Net10 last night (at my neighbor's because we don't have a land line any more) I went back this morning for a phone call that required talking to 4 of their people and 2 hours and 15 minutes before they found my phone number and gave it back, found my missing minutes and got them all to work together. The last 15 minutes was talking them into giving me some bonus minutes for the 2 week aggravation I had. She gave me 60 minutes. I feel I ought to coplain in an email but I'm also thinking I need to just hang it up and take what I got before something else goes wrong. After all, getting me those 60 minutes caused my original 2000 to vanish until she found them again.

But I still refuse to get a contract phone. I'm cheap and easy. And hopefully this phone won't up and die mysteriously after only 4 months.

I moved Fiametta to the coop tonight. The plan is to get the rest of the chickens out of my garage this weekend if all goes well and I get the frame built to put under the dog coop for the silkies and the two expected babies. In 2 weeks I get my final bonus, and that bonus will be what I need for the wood and hardware cloth to finish the summer coop. The neighbor across the street works for the Lakeshore Resouce Habitat store, and he said he will let me know as soon as they get a donation of wood that would be usable for the coop walls. I am hoping that will be soon. He also said as soon as he finishes the walls in his garage, I can have any left over wood from that. He figures he should have a few full sheets and some partials, but isn't willing to donate them to my cause until after he is finished with his project. I can dig that. I brought them eggs from both ducks and chickens. Last year I kept the in cucumbers and tomatoes. I didn't share the rest of the produce. LOL. The cukes and the tomatoes were plentiful enough... but the rest was just enough. I hope to be able to can this year... Well anyway, so I got her moved, and she seemed a little out of sorts for a minute. I left the coop door open while I put the ducks away in the case that she might not be ok in the coop and head for the garage, but nope. She settled herself in in front of the food container, then hopped on up to sit next to the dotte trio. Poor Roger. Oh well. He'll be getting a new girl or two soon. He's going to get Miss Criptoe and one of the other smaller pullets in with him. HEHE. I am hoping to get some silkies about the same time that Leilas 2 hatch... If anyone has any due to hatch near the 17th, please let me know. I'd like about 4 or so. Sex doesn't matter.
