You lived in Hawaii? I'M SO JEALOUS!!

Don't be jealous. As soon as we could we moved home to Michigan. Michigan has it all, natural beauty, good healthcare and schools, nice people.
Hawaii is a nice place to visit, but ...........lots of downside to living there. We were there 8 years. Glad to be home.

I'm right there with you. I've lived in lots of places but I bought my home in and moved back to Michigan (almost exactly a year ago, whooo!)

I think you're right Sarah, freezing is pretty safe but it mostly effects the texture (or "mouth feel" for you foodies). It really depends on what you want to do with it after. For instance I spread out gallons of my grape tomatoes on a cookie sheet and quick froze them then dumped them into ziplocs. I wouldn't eat them raw because they just would be mushy but they're awesome to toss a handful into a sauce or even roast up.

EeyoreD - I put grape tomatoes on the cookie sheets also - I cut them in half and roasted them for an hour. Then when they were somewhat dehydrated and flavorful, used them in sauces or I froze them on tin foil stacked in tupperware. They thawed well without the mush. Mostly I tossed them into things like pasta but somehow the partial dehydrating helps with the mush factor and the flavor. It also allows me to utilize the skin.

Really? What made it not a place you'd like to live? I just have visions of living in a cabin with no windows and living off the land lol...but then again I think I was born in the wrong century anyway. I bet the weather is nice there! I think we're gonna end up in Florida some day.

Is that really true, it's considered a weed? That is very interesting.

Raz, I think you have this woman far too under your thumb!

A little benefit of the doubt can go a long way.

This is a brand new store here, I have stopped in a handful of times now, to see what they had, and because it is next door to another store I frequent. Unfortunately, this has been the condition of the chicks every time I have been there. Only once that we were there did even one other person come in, and all the employees were standing around chatting with each other and contemplating their navels. They have definitely lost the benefit of the doubt from me, it really looks as though they just don't give a ship. I'm sorry, but if you are going to carry a dozen brooders of chicks, you should know that you can care for them, in my opinion.

Thank you.

Um, what?? lol...

Im just sitting here at work perusing Bed Bath & Beyond's kitchen gadgets...I cant believe the number of crazy things they sell! And some things have only one use. Like an asparagus peeler? Seriously, why would you peel asparagus? Or a bean peeler? I've never heard of such devices. Silly but entertaining. Some things I'd like to have though... like a good garlic press would be nice. Anyway, random ramblings...lol

The ends of asparagus stems on the thick ones can be tough; so I use Jacques Pepin's method - a potato peeler to remove the skins from the ends of the stalks. Makes them cook quicker too. But peeling beans?

I just use the back of a heavy knife to spread/mash garlic.

I do have an electric citrus juicer, but then last week I had to juice a crate of oranges, and by hand would have taken forever.
