Totalcolour: TOTAL CUTIES!!!!
I am one of those people that clicks the related videos on youtube... I always end up somewhere completely different than I intended... That being said I watched some birthing videos. It is amazing how animals just know what to do with their babies!!!

Welcome new folks. Be sure to check out the links to Chickenstock in my signature.

I replaced the axle on the flatbed trailer in only 35 minutes. No skinned knuckles, no swear words uttered. Still need to unload the compost from the utility trailer but that can wait.

This Michigan thread just keeps on growing. I seems that every few days so one new joins our circle of friends. All one need do is read a couple of pages and you realize you won't find a friendlier and more helpful group than this. So to all the new folks, WELCOME.

Even with the ankle biters... Every dog has it's own personality. Some sweet; some not so sweet. And some of it can be blamed on the owner. I have a stinker of a dog... he is not good at meeting dogs of his own size. I sociallized him as a puppy... Then his hips went bad. He is afraid of being mounted and being hurt. So I know well enough not to put him in situations like that. He does really well with females, smaller dogs, and humans.
I have a neighbor with a pit and he is the sweetest boy! He loves all dogs! How could they ban a boy like that?!!!
Oh trust me I know. I'm an animal lover from way back, and I'm about to graduate from vet tech school also. :) It's the same as stereotyping people...you can't judge them all by a few. But people do anyway. I love all dogs (and cats, bunnies, birds, snakes, cows, etc...) but I do believe it has a lot to do w/the owners. Not trying to offend anyone, so don't take it that way. It's just about being responsible for your dogs' behavior in a lot of cases; and even the best pet owners sometimes have a dog who can be a brat sometimes! I know, I've had them. Pits just get a bad name because a) they look scary, b) a lot of bad people own them because they look scary, c)a lot of bad people own them to fight them, d)they do have very strong jaws, e)they look scary...etc...I could go on lol. And they are just so overbred (intentionally and accidentally) that they're everywhere, and "pit mixes" are becoming the majority at shelters. It's too bad also because a lot of shelters don't adopt out anything with pit in them so they sit there forever in "jail" and then have to be euthanized because they're overcrowded. I always try to encourage people to get their pits neutered/spayed (and all other pets really) so hopefully their population will go down and they'll get a good name some day soon! I love shelter medicine, can you tell? :) Anyway. Hope I didnt offend anyone with my public service announcement, sorry if I did lol. I'm off to take a break and eat some cheese!! yum

Welcome VJ, right in my neck of the woods, eh? Wow what a day showing chicks and rabbits. They wanted lambs and piglets so next time I said with a smile! Off to the VFW for a few drinks, and stories (lies) with some friends that served "over there" with me. Good night and God Bless America!

P.S Sorry Mom no baby pictures today! All the women that saw them wanted one, oh my!

Hi everyone! I am new to the site and chickens in general.
1 Black Australorp (a mistaken purchase by my mom, what's one more right?)

Welcome! Waffles sounds like she came with syrup, extra sweet! You will be happy with the Black Austrolorps. They have a good nature and lay really well.

Hello Everyone,

I just received a notice of violation from the city of Sterling Heights. No raising of fowl on a lot smaller than 8 acres. Of course I do not want to remove my birds from the premises. They are contained in a coop and enclosed pen. We also have a privacy fence.
Does anyone have any advise on how to proceed with the city?
Welcome. Sorry to hear about your issues. Check out this thread, maybe it will help. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...o-farm-law-what-does-it-mean/490#post_8641746

No luck, no answer. Probably because they would think it's probably a client or something calling. Oh well; I'm calling at 7:45 am tomorrow (they open at 730)!! I SO hate this current job and I'm looking forward to telling them I'm gone!
Good luck

I'm so sorry about your dog OPA; it's hard to see them decline.

Ours suddenly went into decline about a week ago. I'm not sure she will last the week; I had to carry her outside this noon to pee.

On a brighter note, my two new babies, at 12 hours old!
Sorry about your pup

I think I read all the posts...but..

I didnt see a reply from RaZ to me...so, I think he is ignoring me.

AND

I didnt see any pictures of my bunny....

DID I MISS THESE?????

Okay, now on to my rant.
I am so MAD at my HUSBANDS GOLDEN RETRIEVER.
I went out back, and he came running from the back of the garage, all fired up..wanting to play..so i did my whole, "get away from me" speech...My pit at my side. First CLUE. "Not me, Mom- Im a good boy...see I am walking right next to you"...

Golden runs back to the back of the garage...very excited...
comes back.SECOND CLUE...I made a mental note to see what he has back behind the garage. ....and I went to tell all my broody clan goodnight, and make sure Mama Hen2 has her babies with her,.,,etc etc...Laughed at a banty for stuffing itself under a silkie on a roost..and she kept pecking at him.."GET OUT FROM UNDER ME YOU DUMB CHICKEN!"...

Hmmmm....I give up counting all of you...so, I close them up, and then I walk to the back of the yard, and my tortoise is behind the fenced off area, completely finishing off the ornamental grass and my cat tails are gone...I fetch my husband to get the tortoise out of my ONLY spot that had green growing..*sigh*..had to move the fencing so he could get him out...

Golden is still bouncing around...THIRD CLUE..so I go look behind the garage. Dead d'uccle. Pullet. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MADDDD...I pick it up, march back to the garage door- the Golden took one look at what I was holding, and LITERALLY stepped behind my husband so that he was invisible.
SO, I did what any rational wife would do. I yelled at my husband. He always claims that his Golden is so innocent..PSSSSSHHHHH....proof right there. ANd poor Yogi...he looked at me, and telepathically told me he did NOT have anything to do with it, he learned his lesson before, he still runs whenever a chicken gets too close to him- nothin like the wrath of Mama Rooster..nope, Golden is guilty guilty guilty.
He is lucky that his fur is turning grey around his eyes now, reminding me that he is OLD. And he is lucky that I am a tech and would never beat one of my dogs.
SO. what does my husband say? He looks at his dog and says, "All those roosters and you had to kill a pullet?"
