It was gloomy and chilly, so I sought out the couch for a little reading...Two hours later I wake up to quite a nice day of sunshine. And a kink in my back.

I need a real couch, not this stupid love seat that I have. Anyone have an old couch that they no longer want?

Raz, I might have a few. Let me talk to my family and what they intend to do with the furniture in our basement. They are in great shape but not the best fabric pattern. You might want to get a slip cover.

Roger got hawked! BUT Roger lives! Poor Roger looks like a bald old man!




He put up a hell of a fight. All his crest, his comb is bleeding in places, he back of his head, his one eye is swollen a bit, but doesn't look injured itself, just around it from the fight... My poor baby! I hope that freaking hawk learned a lesson! He didn't get no free meal, just a mouth full of feathers...

Oh, the only bloody spot are on his walnut, I am afraid to put neosporin so close to his eyes though... think it'll be ok? I have him confined to the sick carrier right now to protect him from the other roos. I think tomorrow when he is scabbed up I will put him in with Leila and her babies where he will be safer.

Oh no! Poor Roger! I would put the Neosporin on very thin, it shouldn't get into his eye if its really sparing. I hope experienced chicken owners can weigh in on this quick.

I am so torn- I love hawks to the point of running into traffic to see one fly over but I don't want them to eat anyone's chickens!

I like the hawks... just not munching on my chickens. They are only doing what they do to survive. This is life. I know that, and I take a risk with free ranging. I will continue to free range knowing that, unless I can get several hundred bucks to invest in a 20x50 run on one side, and a 20x30 run on the other side... Hell that would be bigger than my house! LOL. He just got caught out in the open part of the yard. Most the birds tend to stick to the trees and tree line. They really only venture in the front yards in the mornings and when I am out.

Looks like you guys weren't so chatty today....unusual. Horse lovers are probably watching the derby events as we are. Oh how I wish I was there!!

This weather is really something else, I wish it would make it's mind up to stay nice out.

Congrats on the granddaughter's Op..... how exciting, double fun!!

Farmerboy......sounds like your dog might of been the runt or maybe abused....maybe just skittish naturally??? IDK. I'd keep her and just really work with her...she's still so young, give her time & patience....she'll improve. I've always been told to use one word commands & a firm tone (not mean) when attempting to train a dog. Good luck....she does love you!!

Nova..... poor Roger.....Ouch. I would certainly apply something to that....may be you could dab a little Blu - Kote on it if you have any. Hope it heals fast.

Well, I'm in the process of integrating my new chicks. I haven't let them free range together yet. I wanted to today but the weather hasn't allowed it. They see each other 24/7 but only through a fence.

Back to the derby.

It's not just free ranging chickens that can be hawk-chow. Remember the one that got into my garage on Oester Sunday and got a Wyandotte chick?

Oh yeah. They are smart.

Well I have the triangle done on the A-Frame. My ma and I are heading on over to get a 4x4 cut to size for the legs. I have a floor space of 3x4, with another 1x3 where I am going work in a walk up for them, AND have food and water station. I am getting a piglet water-er to attach right to the wall. The run will be 7x4 in the confined area... And it looks like it will be light enough to drag to new spots every few days. I may decided to make a bigger run later on though... Maybe.

I have blu kote. think that'd be better than the ointment?

I got my first double yolker egg today! Courtesy of my Australorp girl! Poor gal, she and the others got some nummy oatmeal today as a treat!





The a yolk broke upon entry to pan, darnit!
