Oh, it was everything you said. Lol, no, I realized a little belatedly that this would be my mum's birthday weekend. Er.. good thing I planned on going anyway? But anyway, I will spend it with her instead of running off for half our visit.

In my defense... maybe.. sort of... It's not that I forgot her birthday, it's that I forget the current day.

You could bring Mum with, ya know.

Juise, are you sure those are black widows? I didn't think we had them in MI> this does not make me happy, ,,,,,,,(just trying to catch up on old posts)

Yes, Ma'am! I lived not terrible far from here for 8 years growing up, and only ever saw one. Didn't see one the first couple years in this house, now I have found 7 in the last few! I showed Nova the one I caught the other day, there just isn't anything that looks quite like them around here! Here's a few pictures, first pic is the first one we found, and she laid eggs that night! She has a cicada. The next couple are of one of the males I found, they look quite different. Included a belly shot so you can see the "hourglass" marking. The triangles that form the hourglass shape are not always connected on the Northern species of black widows. Actually, the hourglass mark isn't necessarily present at all, but it has been loud and clear on all that I have found.

I decided to let the bunny go, because he was old enough to take care of himself. The reason I kept him in the first place was because he had a bite wound, and cat bites get infected easily. It was not bad so I washed it and applied antibiotics and let him go in a brushy, far away area where hopefully the cats wont find him.He is wet because he ran through his water.

As I wrote that, the cats caught another bunny.

That is really generally the best thing to do, my cats have been catching a lot, too, it is that time of year. I'll link up the page again I posted for BFM, I have found it very useful.

I see the makings of a fine time and perhaps a Texas Hold'em tourney...

ETA: I don't have much for kid entertainment but I did find a few games, "Trouble", "Sorry" and "Uno". Or put them to work digging up plants...

He was actually an olive egger boy. Those two extra Araucana lads talked to you about are little guys, at five/six weeks they won't antagonize hens. And since they are tufted and rumpless I would rather, find them homes than turn them into supper. This boy was, oh, 16ish weeks old? I was going to butcher him eventually, just not so soon. I have a few other Araucana boys of the same as as the butchered boy, but they are cleanfaced and/or tailed, culls essentially.
Thought as much when you said he was over 2 pounds. LOL.

Such a long, busy day with no let up in sight. We get up bright at early for a 5k race. Our whole family is doing it. Then it's racing off to the final soccer game(poor kid, runs 3.1 miles and then has to play an hour of soccer). Then back to our town to take part in a flash mob sing along for the boys at our Strawberry Festival. Sheesh!

Busy day. Try and remember what I was going to say.

Opa - I read "One Summer" that you said was a good read. Very good book, makes you remember to appreciate every day and those in your life.

Mom - my son is excited to see the chicks.

Stacykins - those babys of yours are adorable.

I know there have been black widow as far north as me. When I was in school someone brought one in to show us from down the street.

I spent a chunk of the day sewing a birthday gift for my niece. Spent a little time with the chickens. My two month old Polish is crowing. For Easter my DH got me 6 polish chicks. Out of the 6, 4 are roosters. All of the WCB are. Took my son to community soccer. They play for 3 1/2 hours. Tonight they played in the rain. Doesn't faze them at all! I stayed inside and watched. DH did up 3 dozen deviled eggs, regular, mexican and ranch for a picnic lunch we are going to tomorrow. He's the expert!

My brain is getting foggy and I have to get up for the farmers market tomorrow, actually I have a meeting so my son is handling the farmer's market. My mom goes so he will set up next to her in case he needs help.

Very rumbly here and lots of rain. Night all.

The method I use is a sharp axe. One stroke as fast and hard as possible does the job. I don't like the throat slitting method, I just don't. I mean, they're completely conscious when it happens. I don't care if people argue their nervous system isn't advanced, or they bleed out so fast the pain is minimal, I think it isn't the most humane method. Heck, even an axe isn't perfect. So yea, that is what I do.
Axeing is the best way. I eat most of my culls, even modern games (not hens), unless they are really good quality and I just dont have room for them. They taste good, but their legs always get overcooked because they stick up so far.

I'm in St.Clair County. Algonac, to be exact. I have fertile eggs, but nothing pure, just mutts. Mixes of EE's, BR's, ISA Browns and BCM's. PM me if you're interested.

As long as I'm posting I'd like to caution everyone about selling or giving away roosters on Craigslist. I know you need to get rid of them, but police and animal control are finding the remains of roosters along with those of kittens, puppies and any unfortunate dog the scumbags can steal out of someone's back yard in dog fighting pits. They will take any FREE animal and some are even willing to pay small amounts for bait animals. Please make sure your roosters are going to a good home or to someone who will kill them humanely for dinner and not into a dog or cockfighting pit where they will be ripped apart and suffer.
