I knew that. I was joking back. I failed miserably. Although washers are important.

It was a joke. ;)

I've walked down Prairie, and ridden my bike, the only question now is, were we there at the same time? We were on Arcturus. 85 to about 96.
Lawndale~ Prairie and 152nd. We were one block apart!

Nova - Why thanks. I do have a little self control... sometimes.

Too bad we're not closer to one another. DH could cut those trees down for you. What kind are they? How big? You could put out an ad for U-Cut Firewood. Problem there is trusting the person doing it. When they're in a tight spot you don't want just any yahoo laying them down.

(Poor Taste in) Beer Guy - Kidding, kidding!

Are they in bad shape? When is your butcher appointment? If they're doing well I wouldn't worry too much about it. Deaths can happen with CX but lots of things many backyard raisers do can lessen the likelihood of it. For instance, if you've allowed them to roam a bit for exercise, limit fed, etc. If anything I think I'd just give them a fan on hot days (you can zip tie your hose and sprayer to the fan and set it to mist for an added kick) and go back to 12/12 feeding. Unless of course you're already seeing signs of them going down hill... I've had CX roos live well over a year and only die then because he got too big for his britches. Until something snatched them this spring I've also had CX laying hens.

Yes, we were there at the same time! 1982-2000. I worked at RFK Medical Center and Torrance Memorial Hospital. Small world!

p.s. aren't you glad to be here? So crowded there!

Nova-

my girls lay great when they arent broody. The one with the beard actually decided to stop being broody today. She has been dust-bathing all day.
The other is sitting hard. She is a very good Mama. The non-bearded is the best.

They are both white fluff. I decided that I just dont need four incubators- if you didnt lose your girls, theyd stay here with no problem *(i never see them, they are always broody).

I will bring em- tell Roger to hang on.

Heck ya we are thrilled to be out of there. Moved to northern VA first then decided to move to northern MI. DH is from downstate. We love it up here.

Hey Guys, Im new to the forum and to chickens as a whole. I'm in SE Michigan (Monroe County) and was wondering if anyone knew of a person or place that has a plucker for rent. We miscalculated the age of our birds. We now have 9 week old meat birds that are ready to go. We were plan on having them processed, but now its too short of notice. So I took it upon myself to start the process. Yesterday I did about 8 of them and have 22 more to go. The plucking is most time consuming. I just don't want to do a few a day, because i'm afraid theyre going to start dying on me and the set up and clean up is a big deal.
Welcome! Sorry, I don't know of anyone with a plucker but good luck.
The much needed rain came and fortunately was over with before I needed to start frying fish. Dinner went off without a hitch and everyone enjoyed themselves. I heard from all of my kids that couldn't be with us today including my cyber daughter in Scotland. I don't know how the day could have been much nicer.

One of my stated to do projects for this summer is to run a water line out to the chickens. It will require trenching 200' down at least 48" and installing a yard hydrant. Dave and Amy gave me a gift this year that will require I accomplish the water project in order to use it.
Sounds like you had a wonderful day Opa and nice gift too.

Olive, I tried that, and people round here... I tell ya... They are very very strait oaks and a cherry... The type that you need to have a male/female combo..

Mom, Jace says "thank you!" he's excited over white silkies.

Opa, that is a cool faucet.

Juise, are you going to go Saturday?

Nova - If they're nice sized trees you could try contacting saw mills over there and asking if any of their timber buyers do small loads. Depending on how small your yard is some buyers will take really small jobs that can be hauled on a gooseneck. They'd have to be able to get a skidder in there to cable the trees when they cut them and a loader to get them out though.

Here is one of my Delawegger babies

Opa - I LOVE that. I need one like that. Do you know where they got it at?
