Can't shoot the kids! I'm grooming them to be farm sitters when they get a little older! LOL maybe I should trap mom, and then feed the kids on the back porch? of course, children carry all sorts of cooties :)

Too cussed hot. I even had to lower the temperature in the smoker's oven so that the chicken does get done before and adequate amount of smoke has been applied.

Well "Your Highness' - Uhmmm...yes...

If I had the choice of being shot 5 times or dying in 10 seconds I think I'd chose the quicker route. Again...that's me. And no, not a nurse "Just" a CNA so I'll claim ignorance.

ANYWAY - I didn't say that's what I would do. I don't actually know what I would do because I've never had to deal with this issue. I've never shot a gun, poisoned anything(well other than ants) or killed something before other than accidentally running something over with my car, to which I cried.

Interesting, so you admit to having zero experience with both forms of death, but have no problem purporting that you know how each works... including the time frame within which they work.

I guess in all my joking, I didn't make the point clear.

The point is: You're wrong. Poison does not kill in "seconds". Not 10, not 20, not 60. For a mammal, death by poison is slow and painful. Think in the form of hours and sometimes days, not even minutes.

But that's not convenient for the bleeding heart, anti-gun masses. Those pesky gun owners and their inability to be absolutely perfect, we'll just drown, poison and relocate the varmints to death and then display our prized VIP HSUS member plaques proudly.

But what do I know? I only have both killed animals by gun and had the very unfortunate experience of having to deal with animals that have been poisoned.

or the record, I don't really care what method you use. It's when you decide to start taking aim at responsible gun owners with patently false information that I take issue.

Ok...
We've had a few family loses, several bird loses to coons, me and VJs mom most recently. Raz is still working on his menagerie, recently adding a skunk! And several more mallards. Mom2's Dh had a nail stuck in his foot, had to spend several days in the hospital getting abused. Olive lost most oh her garden tto critters that end in ole. And the puppy who got the mole. Been a lot of plant swap planning....lots of hatching. Mom is uggo-less... For the moment... RaZ city council is deciding on the chicken issue. Um... Butterflies... New members.... Chickenstock count down... Fuzzy may have finally beat the bumble foot... Juise's chicks test came back negative.... Hmmmm... I am sure there is more that I could come up with... Aside from people threatening other people with chickens, the ugly ones that is, and the general bs-ing... Getting mouthy.... But, this is edited broad spectrum from the last few weeks... Lol. Sorry, my brain is to fried from the heat.

Thanks Nova!!

I plan to be at CS!!! Better get things ready for it! :weee

Everyone should expect an increase in pests of all sorts this year.   The warm winter means more not only survived over the winter, but more of this year's offspring had a good chance of making it.  An increased population, combined with an early year for most wild and natural food sources means there is going to be fierce competition for survival of each species through this summer and into fall and winter.  If we get a harsh winter, it should readjust the population and naturally solve the problem.  If we get another mild one... next year will be even more fun.

I agree with you on that. I have never seen or been bothered by so much bugs before! My poor cows are covered with flies, milking time with Bella is not very pleasant too, for the flies would bother her, and she swishes her tail at the bugs, but hits my face too. And she move her feet when the flies bites, sometimes hitting the pail dumping the milk, esp toward the end of milking. :barnie It takes me about half hour to milk her. I do cry over spilled milk. :hit

I wasn't talking about any one person in particular or any one persons ability to shoot a gun. Thank you for kindly educating me. I am a very reasonable person and don't need to be made to feel, well...like an idiot.

Moving on...

For what it's worth, I'd probably be the undesirable person that would probably take a raccoon to the nature center because I can't kill stuff. So I'm already behind the 8 ball in everyone's opinion.

Daron, have you tried fly spraying her just before milking? If you're not worried about chemicals Bronco is cheap and works well and you can pick it up right at your local TSC. If you would want something more natural I really like DEO lotion. It's not actually a lotion, that's just the name. You can buy it online through many of the tack/horse supply places. It's all natural and works really well. So well, in fact, I often use it on the humans, too.

Everything is extra bad here this year, too -- bugs, birds, coons, voles, mice... even the yotes are coming closer than they normally do this year.
