Silly chicken started a thread in the Social page under Chickenstocks for us "Michigan Chickenstock 2013'. Just thought I'd mention it again. Usually right after an event (like CS2012 which , did I mention, was too fun) everyone has the best ideas and then we all settle back into our routines. Anyway, Farmerboy16 and I signed up for photography positions, RAZ is doing the food thread again, and a grill master spot was spoken for. Good stuff so put on the thinking caps, make suggestions, and grab a job!

Gonna be a hot one here. Forecast is for 97 degrees.

well, my crazy neighbor called the cops on us yesterday. for the record, i don't blame her - someone went tearing across our lawn, tore up a bit of grass, and hit her fence, fast enough to splinter a 4x4 post. We are the last house on a dead end road..... the only people who SHOULD be driving past her fence is us... but we didn't do it (and we have the undented vehicles to prove it!) It would be really nice if she'd call *us* if she had a problem with us, though, instead of the cops. the funniest thing about her constantly calling the cops on everyone in the neighborhood, though, is that she has one of those "no trespassing" signs with all the gibberish about the FBI, EPA, police, county officials etc etc etc not being mandated by the constitution and and therefore illegal and not allowed on the property even with a warrant. The mind boggles.

yet she is the fist to call the police? That is classic.

I have started a thread for an UP NORTH Chickenstock (First wrote chickenstalk, what was I thinking?!!

)
https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/682327/michigan-chickenstock-north-2012-august-or-september

Anyone who wants to help, volunteer or see what's going on (so far nothing on the thread yet) come on over and help. AFAIK Grayling is being looked at most seriously. So anyone in that area or a bit north or south of it with other info would be wonderful to have you speak up. I just htought it might be best to pull the majority of the future CS North talk out of the MI thread to keep it all together.

So come on down! or up!

It was a kit in the live trap, and the big one in the duke trap. That thing weighed more than Ruby! Ruby is a 23 pound dog. No freaking wonder it was able to get out of the live trap. Well... I will wait a few days, and set it again. See if any more kits are around. And yes... I felt a little bad burying them... But not as bad as when I was burying my chickens remains.

This ordeal is going to go a long way, from what I saw today. In reviewing the court papers, I have gone from a civil infraction to a criminal offense which may entail jail time. I have graduated from a $20 fine to 93 days in jail for my keeping of chickens. What is not clear is if it it for the entire flock or for each bird.

Heck, I could be in jail for 3 or 4 years.

What astounds me is that all that money being spent could be used to help someone who is ill, like Nova's sister.

I feel bad that our government has funds to prosecute (persecute) back yard poultry while people who need help can't get it because there are no funds available.

I apologize for being a criminal in this whacked out society.

This burns my a**. So it's ok to have a pedophile or murderer live almost anywhere but not someone who wants a few chickens? Or, like when I grew up in Okemos which is a fairly wealthy community, we had a neighbor that had 5 dogs. They would bark all ****** day because the woman didn't like them in the house. We called animal control and the police a few times, so did other neighbors. All they did was give them a warning. Unless you have 30 roosters chickens aren't going to make as much noise as those dogs did!

I agree too much money is spent on crap like that. Why not make people who want chickens get a permit like we have to for dog licenses? There's revenue!

Unbelievable!

BTW, Nova I know I haven't said anything but I have prayed for your sister. Having been through a lifetime of medical issues myself, I know what it's like to struggle.

Kimmie, the second picture of Tommy is classic ACD! Check out Jiilaroo, if she knows the camera is pointed that way she folds her ears back too. Last night the duck was chasing her around the yard - would have made for some good pictures but I was laying in the grass without my camera.

I wish they wouldn't put their ears down. Do bad you didn't have a camera, that would have been a pretty funny picture.

It might have been Sue who posted a picture of eggs in cartons with dates and weights on them last fall. Said it was done for her customers, if I remember correctly.

Anyway, I started doing the same thing and then used that for one of my class projects. I'm still doing it.
I like noodling with numbers and so far this calendar year, my hems have laid 520 eggs with a grand total weight of 28465 grams.

In my binder, I have lots of information on keeping chickens in the suburbs and changes to ordinances. It is going with to see the judge in about an hour.

Thats a lot of figuring! I hate numbers. Hope everything turned out with the judge. I have to read the rest of the posts to find out I guess.
