I just have to vent! lol

So in March we picked up 8 pullets, 3 of which were BR. Those things have been a thorn in my side ever since. Every day, several times a day they would get loose and be running around the yard. Aric then added more chicken wire and increased the fence from 6 ft to 8.5 feet all around except for against the barn and on the door because he ran out of wire. Well, wouldn't you know those little buggers STILL got loose. After winding them up in the net and throwing them back in they quit.

We thought those troubles were over. WRONG. Now these huge LB hens are doing the same thing. However, some how, we don't know how they are getting on top of the barn roof!! We clipped their wings after they did it the first time but they are still getting up there. The guy we got them from lived in the middle of Lansing with just a basic fence around his yard. He said they never got up on the fence or got loose.

In all the years put together that we've had chickens never have I seen them act this badly! Everyone else is just fine, no fights, nothing.

I'm still trying to round up pullets for my nephew and I'm seriously contemplating letting him have the BR, I just don't want to let the LB go!

Aric is out there changing the water pump in his truck and I need to stay out of his way (it's a very difficult process) lol so I guess I need to find something to do. I just hope I don't have to chase chickens since I'm not supposed to run anymore!

Thanks everyone for the fruit tree idea. I was trying to tell my mom about it, and she was trying to tell me about what her sister's idea was, and it was the same thing.

We are not sure what kind to get though. Cherry or Apple. My brother's favorite pie is apple.
Why not both? You could put a bench in between!

Nova - Thanks for the eggs offer, but, eh... I am not worried about a month without eggs... I hoped to get over it, but they totally freak me out still. I barely choke them down, they disgust me so much.
Could you put them into a homemade pudding or something? Most desserts can be made with soy milk also. There are so many good amino acids in yolks.... Yolks are one of the few complete proteins, and the closest in nutrition to meat. Sorry to be gross, but i think of them in a way as (a bird's) mother's milk..... ? Is that less gross than whatever you are thinking?

Someone on injuries / cures just told me Ivermectin does not treat lice on chickens because they don't suck blood, while the lice cattle get do suck blood. Did I miss something here, or am I just suffering from more "everyone has a different opinion"?
I read the same thing, but i have had good results treating them with blood related treatments. The ivermectin is considered safe for human consumption because that's what other countries are using as human wormer! So worst case scenario.......... lol.

Olive - You have alpaca's? is this recent? I don't remember you ever talking about them. Where do you sell their fleece? (not like I need any really....I have 10lbs at the fiber mill being washed, and dyed) I just haven't worked with alpaca fiber yet.

Ummm, kind of recent, I guess. They're the kids', they got them last fall. I don't sell their wool, but I have posted about them once or twice. RB has claimed them for her own. LOL!

On Sunday night, my sister in law- Amy- had 3 contractions, then it stopped. She can go into labor within a day to a few weeks. Its very scary for me think about that. My mom said that Amy was nervous when that happened. Micah is kicking hard enough for his father to feel him, and Amy saw his head pushing her belly out a bit. I am so sad when I think about him kicking and moving around like normal, but will die soon. I cried for him yesterday.
My brother will call us when Amy goes to labor, so we all can see Micah. The doctor thinks that he will not be born alive, but I pray that he will be.
Yup, I am sure, born in 1988.

I get that looks from my mom. She looks about 10 or 15 years younger than she really is. People are always asking me what grade I am in. I always says that I am done with school, and I get shocked looks.
Sent PM!

I am quitting the Dairy farm job, and Wednesday will be my last night to work there. Its long over due any way. I have been working there for almost a year. It will be a year on August 8th. That is the longest time I have worked in one place. All other of my jobs were seasonal. Going to write a letter to my boss tonight and hand it to him that night. He does not need me until Monday night, so he will have plenty of time to find someone better to take my place. Its not a place for a deaf person like me, and some other issues anyway. Wednesday is the last day of Raspberry picking at the other farm where I also work, but they have a greenhouse of strawberries and greens that my sister and I will work until late September in the mornings. I love that job!

But again, its seasonal job.

Daron - My heart is aching for you, your family and little Micah. God doesn't make mistakes, so there is a lesson and a blessing to be found somewhere in all of this. I will continue to pray for strength, peace and acceptance for all of you.

FYI add to your vet list. Companion Animal in Shelby Mi will treat chickens. The vet there keeps chickens herself and is more than happy to do fecl/parasite test without having to take the bird in.

Thanks DOE, that's good to know since it's not too far from me.

Silly - Congrats on your picture being chosen top 10! You have a phenomenal talent.

Got it. It is sometimes hard for me to keep up so I may have missed it when you mentioned them. Yes, RB quickly put me in my place when I inquired!

Hilarious.

well...you can ship me their wool. I will gladly take it off your hands.

I'm happy to share some with you. Unlike RB I actually DO like their wool, I'm actually thinking about trying to procure either more alpacas or some sheep for more wool. That's why I'm not selling it at this point. I have plans for it. I don't need it all though. Would you prefer white Suri or chocolate brown Huacaya?

Hmmmm Olive, you ned to re-think this decision. The Alpaca's will be much happier with me.
