Hi Sarah,

We have the same program in our county (Eaton), it is awesome. Our club has always contributed to the program and I know the lady that runs it, another 4-H leader and some of the other volunteers. Who knew one day my own child would need the program?! It is such an awesome program and an awesome opportunity for some many that would never be able to afford it otherwise. Maya absolutely loves riding, loves the horses, loves the people and has benefited so much since she has begun the program. SO THANK YOU!!!

The program here in Livingston County is really great too. My MIL hosted it at her farm for numerous years. She passed away last January, and I had to fill her shoes.(too big by the way) I became hostess, horse coordinator, and co-volunteer coordinator. It is a ton of work, but the smiles on the kids faces is well worth it!
The state just bumped up the age for volunteers to 14 years old. We are going to have a lot of disappointed kids showing up for Volunteer Orientation in 2 weeks.

I am glad that your daughter, Maya, enjoys riding the horses. Have a great time this summer riding in Eaton County.

Hi All!

All of this rain, and nowhere for it to go around here. My hubby said we can't try to hatch out any more chicks until most of this water goes down.

He doesn't want me to lose any more chicks from the rain.

Later the evening, the rain died down, it warmed up a little, and the sun came out for just a brief time, and lit up the sky with its beauty. Makes one feel like things will be alright.

So far we only have our little silkie going broody. Sure hope we get a few more. It is so cute to watch them with their little ones. The one little bantum hen we have is such a good Momma. She hasn't lost any of her 6 little ones.

Sounds like the program with the kids and the horses is a wonderful thing. God Bless you for doing it.
Wishing you all prayers for your little ones, prayers for your fuzzies hatching and prayers for you!!! Have a good evening everyone!!!

Morning everyone!!!! Got our newest foster kid off to the bus stop, got me a fresh cup of coffee, and the grand baby is yelling that she is going to "get me" making monster munching sounds as she eats her fruit loops lol.

Even though it is a rainy, dreary day, one promising to be full of LOTS of running around, I'm having quite a bit of fun!!!!!!

PS, my quail chicks are now 11 days old and flying to the top of the brooder....... gr.............

Good Morning!
We found a brand new baby kitten in the barn this morning! The kids were so excited, I could barely get them out to the bus.

The chickens seem about the same, still rattling when they breath and coughing some. Hopefully the meds start working soon. None of the little chicks or meaties are sick so that is good.

I thought we couldn't eat the eggs when the chickens are on antibiotics, but a couple people said you can. Any opinions on that?

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning all, I just came in from checking all the birds. Looked in the brooder and spent a few moments just marveling at the wonder of nature. The vorwerk chicks are 12 days old and their wings and tail feathers are in and the color change is amazing. I'm anxious to see their heads start feathering. They started with dark colored bodies and light colored heads and now everything is switching. Hard to believe it works that way. I love the fact that such a simple thing brings me such happiness.

I wonder how much rain we are going to get today. I know that all the rain we got yesterday showed me exactly where I need to add a lot more sand in my runs. Fortunately I can move some from other spots on my property I just have to get in gear and do it. The older I get the easier it is to procrastinate.

Stay dry all and enjoy your day.

You are a blessed man and so are those kids!

Thanks! I hear a lot of folks who ask me if I'm crazy having this many kids in the house, but it's what I'm used to. Dinnertime is like a mess hall, you get in the chow line, and better not be late
