Guess I should've mentioned that I have 5 New Hampshires, 2 White Rocks, 10 CxRs (gone by Sat morning), and one uncontrollable dog that we share with the neighborhood.

Hoping to add 2 Barred Rocks and 2 milk goats next Spring.

Also, forgot I wanted to mention this. The 87th Annual Fowl Fest is coming up in Frankenmuth on Oct. 13 and 14 . The website is www.FowlFest.org. I've never been there but plan to attend this year. Also, the State Fair starts, I think tomorrow. Lots of chickens there. If you haven't been, there's a lot to do. You can really make a whole day out of it. We take the kids every year. It's very safe.
If you know anything about this Fowl Fest write and let us all know about it. Thanks. Melanie

I'm planning to go to Fowl Fest, too -- maybe if there's other 'ganders from the Lansing area going, we could carpool.

Wish they'd named it Bawktoberfest! Ummm! Chicken brats and beer and sauerkraut . . .

Hi All, Anyone know where I can buy organic feed near my home in Clarkston? Clarkston is located about halfway between Detroit and Flint. How about up near Davison or Lapeer. Any organic feed up there, folks?

Looks like no new posts for quite awhile...I'm in Swartz Creek, near Flint.
I, too, have been looking for organic feed. The Argentine Feed Mill makes it, but it's mash...quite powdery, and my pullets aren't keen on it.
Anyone that knows of an organic feed producer in the area, please let me know!

I'm also interested in information on Cuckoo Marans...looking for a few to add to my small flock, but want to try find ones that have a good chance of laying extremely dark eggs.

Also, I'm worried about letting my chickens out to roam. I'm on 10 acres, have horses, so about 7 acres are pastured. My run is about 20' x 40', and the coop is in the run, which is extremely secure. So, they definitely have enough room to roam about, eat grass & insects, etc. in the run, but I'm concerned if I let them out, they'll never come home! Can anyone give info. on that?

Another "feed source" question - I've read that sea kelp is really good for chickens, but haven't been able to locate any locally. Can anyone help with that?

Thanks so much for your help - I've sure enjoyed this site!!

Welcome Wynette,

I see that you're looking for some Marans chickens. In case you didn't see the thread about the unscrupulous breeder near you, I'll give you a link:

This is a person I recently emailed about Barnevelders. He also has Marans and Welsummers.

It's too bad, too. He's only about 30 minutes from you. I just thought I'd give you a heads-up

Hello Michigan!

New to the forums, and now living in cheesehead country, but a dies-in-the-wool Lions fan!

I'm originally from Imlay City (gateway to the Thumb).

Glanced briefly at other locations and saw someone from Capac.

Thanks Wynette, I appreciate your willingness to try. I was going to try and talk my dh into going but now I am way too far away. Hawkster, I have a neice that recently moved to appleton from Spokane Washington. She does pretty good there with the "cheeseheads"

Hi Ali in Okie-homie!! I lived in AZ for 10 yrs! I would love to go back out west but to many ties in MI.

Crazychicknlady I'm about 2 hours north of you - I live north of GR. Seems like there are quite a few that live over by Detroit area.

Grammi - as for the fowl fest I know "wynette" went. She forgot to take pics. She said it was awesome - some pairs of chickens were going for mad cash.
