i thought i might have pics of them together. but then no. hug Rachel for me.

how cool about the rally. did you raise your mission trip money yet?
Hannah, my oldest, is going to the Dominican Republic this summer on a mission trip and next summer to a country that i am not sure is supposed to be disclosed for safety reasons yet.

go figure, she said that she couldn't decide whether to take French or Spanish this year. she felt God led her to take Spanish. then a few weeks later she gets asked to go on these trips....she is getting an A by the way!

Hang in there Sarah. hugs to yours today and i am heading out into the cold to haul 5 gallon buckets of water....aaaagh.

Hey Miss Jayne!!

My oldest daughter is going on a mission trip to Dominica (very close sounding to Dominican Republic) in January! She had a chance to go on another one to Honduras over Christmas break but we couldn't swing two trips so close together. She is currently fundraising for her Dominica trip. She had to write an essay to a group of eye Dr.'s (about 40 of them that make this trip every year) and they chose her's first and one other, a boy, to go on the trip with them!! They teacher will go along to as their chaperone. They will train the kids to do simple eye exams and paperwork. They will get to meet the president of Dominica, swim in the ocean and help work at this free eye clinic for the week. She is very excited!!

Vicki,
Dominica is beautiful. I had the opportunity to stop there on a cruise when I was in high school, by far the most beautiful island on our trip. Your daughter will have so much fun. And good for you in raising a daughter that is willing to devote her time to helping others.

Miss_Jane and all

No we haven't met the fundraising goal of $2000 for the 2 of us to go yet. We have nicely raised just over $500 so far, so we are 1/4 of the way there.
We are going to write letters asking for support. Rachel is going to do her own for her orthodonist, dentist, feed store owner, grandparents, etc. We will have a joint letter for the rest of the family probably.

There are 24 people from our church going. I am so excited to go and help start building a church for them. The warm weather in February sounds awesome too!!!

I am going to have to go downstairs and look on the wall map and find out where Dominica is. That trip sounds exciting!

We have had people in our community at various times go to other countries for medical missions. The stories they come home with are great inspiration to go myself.

I am off to finish dinner, chicken noodle soup! Perfect for a very cold day.

Sarah

Wow, my daughter is named Rachel also!! How cool is that?!?! I WISH I could go too!! The small plane that flies into Dominca only holds something like 44 people and 40 are the eye Dr.'s, they have just enough room for the 2 kids and their teacher chaperone. Maybe next time!

Thought I'd post a picture of some of the eggs I getting. I'm currently getting 6-7 eggs so quite a few of the girls aren't pulling their weight. ShelleyB1969 take a real close look at the dark eggs and the speckled ones. Those are from the Welsummers and that's what you can expect the eggs I give you to look like. Hopefully Jake is going to be doing his job so that you will have pretty eggs too.

Opa, love your new avatar!

Your eggs are lovely! My Wellies don't lay speckled eggs...well, they are speckled, but not as prettily (is that a word?) as yours are! Here's one of mine:

p.s. those darn silvers aren't laying yet????

Hey Wynette, thanks for the nice words I feel the same about you.

Welcome YooperChick, I am only 2 hours away from marquette as well. I am in Gladstone are you close to me or the other way.

I have Buff and Black orps and Dorkings. One BR hen and one blue cochin. I hatch as well. Between now and Febuary I will be hatching some mixed chicks and some Buff Orps from show stock from a guy down state. Blue/black/splash orps and Dorkings.

Might be hitting the shows to sell what I don't want this spring. I am going to hatch so that they will start laying this spring.

What breeds do you have.

Hats are vital to an old man's survival. As your head starts to molt and your feathers get thin a hat will keep your hide from getting sunburnt, and it will keep your comb from getting frost bitten in the winter. My favorite I bought several years ago when I was hunting in Wyoming. One nice feature is that it has ear flaps. Now that brings up a whole nother issue.
I guess winter is definately here. I have an automatic door on my primary coop but not on the Welsummer coop, so now with the cold temperatures, I'm having to open and close it to try and keep them warmer. I sure don't care to think about dubbing their combs. I'm considering applying Dionne Frost Protection Udder Balm to their combs and wattles. Probably unnecessary since the coop is insulated, is only 60 cubic feet in size, and I have 6 birds in it.

Sam, I've been thinking about the same thing with my Copper Black Marans. he's got wattles down his chest, and a comb as high as a corn stalk. Well....that may be a bit of an exagerration....I'm not sure what to do with my boy. He does seem to be staying in most of these cold days, though, so maybe I won't have to worry.

Jean - Okay, so...Dorkings have been on my list to get a couple pullets for a year now! I hear tell they lay really well in winter, but often go broody in the spring for the entire summer. True?
