hey! watch it! i resemble that remark!

meaties are AI'd and eggs are generally not available. you could do some dual purpose birds. buff orps, dels, sussex. not HUGE, but definitely easy to incubate.

What??? I leave for a few hours and here you all are talking about me and plotting behind my back!! Stealing my ducks and leaving me pigs???

Steve, I have muscovy eggs in the bator and I think one of them just went broody, you are welcome to as many as you would like. I personally think 2 would be better than one, as one would be lonely, but whatever makes Judy happy!!

Muscovy's are super easy to care for, love to wag their tails, they crack you up! Best part is, no pig needed in return!!

At least not until I move!! I told you, I am OUT OF ROOM!!!

Well, you asked! I know they are different than other ducks, when crossed with other breeds, they will produce a "mule" of sorts, and be sterile. Great layers, great broody's. Don't need water like other ducks, like to play in it, but not big swimmers. Have wicked claws and will fly up and roost in low branches. Males are twice the size of females. They take 35 days to incubate. They come in tons of colors, solid and patterned. Anyone else, feel free to jump in. Oh, they have the red cruncles (or however that is spelled) on their face, males more than females.

Here are some pics of mine.

Here they are talking to each other, they wag their tails and bob their heads, it is too cute!

We have some of those too, but they aren't laying yet, just finishing their molt. Cute!! Also excellent flyers and easy coon bait, need good housing for these guys!!

How much water for the muscovies? I really seriously need a shrink.
My chickens were my cheep therapy....I need a real human shrink to tell me to stay away from the computer when i am feeling sad.

I have a dozen eggs coming. I have no idea how to incubate a duck- I can rehab baby ducks- but I have never hatched a duck out.
(story- from my childhood-)
Neighbor had ducks. Wood ducks and Pekin ducks. I stole a duck egg from a nest. And I snuck it home and put it on a heating pad in my drawer. Wanted to hatch it. I do not know how long I left that egg there that never hatched. Poor me.
Poor me. maybe that is what is wrong with me today- perhaps my inner child needs to hatch that duckie....
