Peas like it cold and do better when you plant them early. I am actually running about a week late.

I guess I had better get on it then as soon as the weather permits. Thanks! I guess that means that the turnips too!

Not sure about turnips as I don't do those. I know I have to wait a little longer on carrots. If you want me to find out when to plant turnips I can call my dad. He is a garden addict. Watches the weather like crazy, farmers almanac etc. Let me know if you want me to find out for you.

Thanks but I seem to remember that my Ma planted turnips at the same time as the peas, this was in South Carolina. She would also plant some in the fall. I know that turnips and collards like the cooler weather. Looks like it might be Wednesday before I can plant anything including the fence for my chicken coop:/

hi, yes I have 2 adult Phoenix, one hen, one rooster, which my brother in law gave us. I also have 2 BR roos about 3 weeks old and then I have 16 that are about 7 weeks old. 3 BR, 4 isa browns, 2RIR, 3 that were advertised as auracanas [but have tail feathers] and 4 cornish x. I think one of the "auracanas" is a roo. They were all supposed to be pullets except for the 2 little BR and the cornish x.

I think I forgot to mention that we went to the store with the intention of getting 8 chicks but came home with 16. Then a couple weeks later my hubby said he really liked the BR rooster that we used to have and would like another. So we went back to the store and picked out a little BR roo and since the didn't have any little boxes to put him in and he looked so lost and lonely in that great big box, hubby said "better get one more". We used to have chickens years ago when my boys were in the 4-H. Kids are grown now and the last one to leave the nest will be going in the service soon.

Yep, after we got the chicks, hubby says "the chicks are your ordeal" In other words when it is freezing cold out next winter I will be the one taking care of them and I am also the one who has to shovel poo. Although he is building a pen for them and it was my idea to get them.

Not sure if someone already answered you, but peas love cool weather. It is fine to plant them now. We planted out a couple of weeks ago.

Yep, someone already answered , but thanks. I will be out planting peas, collards, turnips and beets as soon as weather permits.
