Yep, they were very simple. Don really, really liked them!

Maybe somebody could give me some idea of what might be going on with my 10 month old Australorp hen. She was fine this morning and did lay an egg today. I went in this afternoon and she was just setting on the floor in front of the chicken door and she was breathing with her mouth slightly open. Kind of like when it's really hot out. They haven't been out free ranging for the past two days because Don put some grass seed down and the little ones come up by the house now. So she didn't get into anything. I felt her and looked her over. Saw nothing. They have straw bedding and it was just cleaned out two days ago -- wasn't that dirty to begin with. They eat a feed which the local grain elevator makes. It has 18% protein. Nobody is acting sick in any way. There is a pile of old cedar planks out by their run. The planks have been there for a week. Could that be bothering her? Any ideas?

Thanks!

you are always so nice. maybe i will send TWO empty envelopes this time!

CM...sounds like she just may be hot or if she was scratching around the cedar plank, it could of aggravated her lungs a bit. just keep an eye on her and see if there are any other symptoms. other than that, i am not sure.

and i am glad that the bars were simple. i am not a genius when it comes to complicated stuff.

Crock pots are much more durable. I think the gravy keeps them from overheating.

Crystal,
since you are GR, you may want to approach Meijer to supply some heating pads (a certain number a year) to the rehab.

you have to fill out paperwork at least a month in advance i believe.

you'll need letterhead from Rog i think too.

GR is headquarters and they donate to many programs.

I don't know what's wrong - it could be the cedar, but old planks wouldn't necessarily have a lot of the cedar oil to bother her. Did you try posting in the chicken illnesses area?

(I'm not going to malign people, but it's upsetting to see someone asking for help and not having a single person respond
