Thanks for answering my question. Well, gotta go tuck my chickens in. I'm thinking my Australorp is doing okay. I have no idea what was going on earlier. Very weird! She never ever just sits there when I get close to her and let me pick her up. Acted kind of lethargic, but was a little peppier now.

Hi Chicken Friends!

What a nice day, kinda windy though.

You guys and your baking, I think I gained a pound just reading that!

My friend came and picked up her chickens. It is really weird not to have anything in the brooder. I took it down quick before I wanted to fill it up again. Oh wait I did want to fill it up again, but I suppose I shouldn't just yet!

I took tomorrow off from the daycare kids tomorrow to go to my Mom's retirement party. I will have extra time in the morning to hit a couple of garage sales, I hope I do good! I love garage sales!

Time to go tuck the girls in!

Wow it was so windy today it blew our new chicken pen a couple of feet out of line and the poor girls in the pen couldn't get back into the coop. The ones in the coop got some extra free ranging time as the pop door was uncovered. Hot Stuff the banty roo has the big girls all to himself now, and he got out and got into it with Floyd the splash roo who has all the little girls. Hot Stuff is now only Warm Stuff.

We just built the pen out of plastic conduit and PVC plumbing joints in kind of a house shaped frame. Zip tied hardware cloth to the sides and put poultry netting over the top. Our intent is to move the pen around the coop, rather than move the coop, so we wanted it light enuf for the two of us to move. Chickendad sunk a couple metal fence posts inside to keep it from blowing away, gonna need a better plan!

It depends on when the question is asked whether or not they'll be a response...or so it seems.

I have been catching up through the days posts. I am not sure what the time of day matters on responses being given? Like MJ, I usually go to the thread that fits, or pm someone. I don't expect people to answer me if they don't have an answer for me. I don't expect people to answer me if they are busy, or just plain don't feel like talking to me. Often people don't answer me, but I chalk that up to all of us being busy people who are free to answer or not... No one should feel pressured to respond. I don' t mean to stir the pot, but it just seems that sometimes there is some chastising going on when an answer is not given. I think we should keep things free. (At the same time, please keep asking questions, we all learn from it!)

Evening all. Just wanted to say thanks again for all your insight into my chicken issue. I just wanted you all to know that I didn't feel hung out to dry or anything because I was not answered immediately. I know people are busy and such or don't have any idea (like me). I just so enjoy this site, so how about we keep it that way. Pretty, pretty please with a cherry on top? If I knew how to make a smiley face with batting eyelashes, I would!

Sam I have been buying pork fat and rendering it for myself and for friends, including MJ. I love it! It gives great texture to all my baking and frying And, at my hubby's last physical, his cholesterol was down!

As a kid growing up, lard was all my mother used. My father grew up in Arkansas I can guarantee that they used alot of lard. In fact they used lard in lieu of butter. He had 12 siblings and the all enjoy pretty good health for a lot of years. It's amazing the number of foods that suddenly become bad for you only to return to be good. All the talk about not eating to many eggs now they has found we don't aborb the cholesterol that is in eggs. Then just tonight on the news that read a list of foods that help or help to prevent macular degeneration.
