mine get into the flower beds but to roll in and dig through the mulch. they don't eat my plants. they do eat the weeds though. (the geese really eat the weeds! phew!)

i have heard people say that chickens will destroy a garden. once tomatoes turn red, they'll poke a hole in each one. that's only hearsay though.

some people build chicken tractors that fit in between the rows so the chickens can weed for them and eat bugs.

Gayle doesn't do that. she just shoots things with spear guns.

mine do not get into it yet, saw a couple of in there after I tilled it up and added new soil, but that was it, have had a few walk thru it since adding the veggies but have shown no interest in it whatsoever, but I have a thread in Coop & Run Design and Construction where I am building a tractor that runs inbetween the rows of the garden so they can help me weed and fertilize at same time b/c my time with the 6 kids over the summer will be limited

I do not want to chance it until the plants are bigger, but I think it depends on the chickens

Well, kinda of a yucky day outside, but great for making bread and cookies!

montcapu......yep, mine walk through my garden, too, but haven't bothered the plants. I'm sure that maybe I'll have to put up something around the tomatoes when they start ripening.

MJ still dreary at my house. The chickens are hanging out right up by the front porch. Kinda funny they never come up here. Maybe they can see me. They think I've got some goodies for them! They are waiting around like little beggars.

Peanut Butter is crowing and Brynna is sooooo afraid of him and the others (no reason to be, just is). So hopefully he doesn't wake her. She shivers with fear when he crows close to her.

They get their fair share of cookies. Don takes the packages that get damaged and crushed at the stores and gives it to them.

oh, maybe because of how loud the crowing is!

i am making cookies too! James' b'day is in July so he is bringing cookies to school tomorrow (last day) since his in summer.

Chocolate cookies with vanilla chips!

yumm-a-rific.

your chickens get all the good stuff! oh windmills, where are you! i need you, windmills!

Great Job Gayle! Wait till I tell DH, he keeps asking how you killed the coon.
As far as chickens getting in the garden, we had that problem a few years ago, they destroyed a lot of stuff. They would eat flowers out of my flower beds too.
Empty nest, I find that I am enjoying it. I LOVE my boys but after raising kids for 25 years I was ready for a break. I love having the time to spend with DH and basically having some "me time".
This morning we went to the Family Farm and Home store and they had some more chicks in. We are thinking about getting more cornish x. They are only .99 cents. It's tempting.

I am just getting caught up reading posts----loved the frizzlehen story. I am thinking it needs to made into a movie of the week!!! Just make the coon rabid, have Angelina Jolie in full combat gear star as FzH, and with the spear gun you would be good to go. A Nielson ratings buster!!!!!!
