Sarah- I will keep his family in my thoughts and prayers. Often it's the poor choices that teach us the most needed lessons.
Chickenstock was so much fun! I'm so glad that I was able to meet as many of you as I did. I sure wish we could have arrived earlier to meet more people. Opa the smoked chicken was awesome! I can't wait to learn how to do it myself. Please let Granny know that my Gold Laced Black Java is doing well and has the best view on my dashboard. Those GLBJ sure like to roost.
I'm glad everyone had fun at chickenstock. I was planning on going but some family things came up and I had to go down to Tennessee for the weekend. I definitely want to try to make it next year. I'd love to meet up in Frakenmuth, I was planning on going to Fowl Fest anyway so it would be great to go with a bunch of BYCers.
I am Tina from good ole Howell MI. I have an assortment of chickens right now because I keep getting them for free lol.
I have Cochins, Marans, Wyandottes, Silkies, Salmon Favorelles, RIR, Speckcled Sussex, and A Mille Fleur roo. I am looking for a nice Silkie Roo for my girls.
But I did sell my black Silkie pair the day before chickenstock.
Tina...
from the thumb! I've got a few chicks growing out right now, and I'm just waiting to see who's who and what's what. I can let you know if/when I have a roo. Are you looking for a particular color? I have blue and black.
I did it, I put Mr. Problem rooster outside while everyone was free ranging. It looked like it might go ok. Splash the silkie roo gave him a good chasing to keep him away from the hens. Splash even took out some tail feathers. Then the big fella saw all the ladies getting some treats and he decided that was ok, and even tried to give them some of the treats he found. Then he saw the turkeys and it went all to heck after that. He really hates turkeys. He's not just chasing he is out to get their necks with not only with his beak but his feet too. Well we got him and he is back in the big brooder waiting till dinner tomorrow or Wednesday. We tried but we really do like the turkeys. So the turkey hating rooster loses out and has to go.
Home from Ingham Co Fair....my daughter showed her Americaunas today. It was her first time out and she thoroughly enjoyed the experience overall. She has decided she will be better off with the smaller breeds....so we are looking for bantams or seramas...she is leaning for seramas....but she likes the Japanese, and old english breeds too....and the belgian d'uccles....is there anyone out there with any of these breeds currently available or soon available? We are starting early for next year lol
Many Thanks all for all of the advice over the past few months. this is such an awesome community.
