Good morning folks. I just started day 20, and I have one egg pipped. Of course it was an egg I didn't expect much from.

It's also in the back where I can't see very well......Murphy's Law I guess. I haven't seen much happening with the other eggs yet, but at least they aren't hatching early like last time.

Good morning everyone! The sun's shining this morning, but its only 5 degrees. Let the flock outside the run to play in the snow yesterday where hubby plowed and threw down a handful of bird seed. Boy was that funny! almost as fun as watching the kids!
LightHawk - smoked whitefish and smelt are delish!! As is brook trout. My husband has smoked just about anything he can catch or hunt. I drew the line at porkies and possum - too nasty. Trust me I have eaten both! I tske that back - never done sheepshead.

Good luck with your hatch! I am antsy to get a full incubator- but I really dont want to go through the whole 'chicks in the house' thing again. What I really want is another splash silkie- like the one my doxie murdered- and I wont even need to hatch and grow.

It is sure cold out today. My new girls are doing fine. They like that warm coop. They are out now, but they sure took their time. I wish I had gotten a heated water bowl. I need to take water out there again- they took their time coming out, and it is frozen again. My originals got a drink when I thawed it out, but not so for the new ones.

How did Michigan become a slow thread? I wasnt gone that long. Anyone know what happened to Steve and MJ and the others who are M.I.A.?

Thanks m2all

We bought Opa's uber brooder he built. No more chicks in the house.

We have the uber brooder in the garage, and it has worked well even in the cold weather. I have a temp brooder set up near Opa's incubator we borrowed. I will probably keep them there a few days or so before I move them out to the uber brooder. Just to make sure they don't have any medical issues needing attention.
This was just a test hatch with my own eggs. There's only 12 in there. The last hatch ( my very first one) didn't go well for various rasons, and I'm just tweaking things to see if I can answer my own questions as to why. I want to hatch some eggs in spring from wynette, and Opa. I just want to make sure I've got the hang of it before I put in the eggs I really want to hatch.

Don't know how you could have a much prettier January morning than we have today. Bright cloudless sky with the sun making the snow glisten. No wind to make you pull your head down inside your coat. And the nicest part is that with the exception of going out to water the birds and collect eggs I have no need to do anything other than enoy how it looks.

Opa, I agree. It's beautiful out there! It was beautiful yesterday, too. I had planned on getting some pictures of your visit yesterday, but only got the one. Thank you for your sweet compliments! I think my birds are pretty, but what the heck do I know? It means a whole lot more that you think they're pretty. Tom and I really enjoyed your visit. Tom posted the picture of you and me on his Facebook page, and posted a thank you on there for the venison. I ate another piece of that jerky yesterday evening-that is seriously the best jerky I've ever had! Tom opened up the pastrami and made himself a sandwich on rye. I took a bite-man, what a treat! Delicious! It will be interesting to see if we can do something like that with yak meat. Here are a few pictures from yesterday:

Opa and me! I feel like I had my picture taken with a celebrity-lol!

After Opa left, we went out to collect firewood

While we were working, Amon was busy building an ice skating ring for the fairies.

Amon's fairy ice skating ring. I think it kind of looks like a toilet seat. LOL!

It is a pretty day, for winter, here today. Sun is shining, no wind to speak of here. Only 23 degrees, but the sun helps. The little kids each have a friend over right now, I might kick them outside to play in the snow soon!

Seems if it works for them it should work out well with bluegill and perch. Just that they taste so good in the pan I didn't want to chance ruining any.

Sam.. No walleye but seems northern could be a fine substitute. Might make it easier to get the Y bones out as well.
Well first I need to get some fish in the bucket.

Yaklady.. looks like a nice spread you have there. Still working on mine. Heck I've only been here 18 years. You know Rome wasn't built in a day.

Anyones curious I did manage to upload some pics of the back yard on my BYC page.
Also on my list to pick up a digital camera next week so I can get some more work done on that page and document the coop build this spring. Heck I'm still working with film and I have to drive 15 miles to get it developed. No one in town will bother with it anymore.
Y'all have a bright sunny day.

I know exactly how you feel! I did something to my knee cap while I slept!!!! During church I rubbed on it and it made a ton of cracking noises so hopefully it is back in! It is sore, but no shooting pain
