I also wanted to say that there is nothing wrong with the chicks from TSC, just the one by me doesn't have anyone that actually knows about chickens, or ducks, or turkeys. Which means the people that work there just don't know what to tell you, or do about the chicks they have. They so much as told me that, we know nothing about these chicks, they just get them in and are supposed to sell them.

They are really great. We have one tom that gets to be a little much now that he is got himself into the top tom position, but he will be in a hoop house come spring. The hens are so sweet, Daisy my sweetgrass hen just loves us, she follows me everywhere, looks into the windows to call me and even lets the kids pet her. The tom has even chased a hawk off, just don't tell my silkie roo he thinks it was him.

Hey Opa...aka Sam -
One of the black austrolorps has gone broody - which I don't MIND AT ALL! she's the one with the band on her leg - the question is....anyone have a surefired way of telling whether or not an egg is fertalized...I read somewhere that the shape of the egg was a rather reliable way to spot them...and I'm thinking that may be accurate - after we rec'd our rooster, we began harvesting eggs that were long and skinny rather than full and oval...anyone have any other tips to offer - btw, Dewitt got about 6 inches of wet snow!

I don't think I could have explained it with just words either. It's one of those, you understand once you see it things.

Well this morning certainly is starting out on much differently than yesterday. That snow certainly was some wet heavy stuff. Had I not had the snow blower I think I would have just left it where it fell and waited for the guy who guy it to us to take care of it.
