I'm still here. I'm just now starting to feel sleepy again. Of coarse I have to work tonight. As much as I enjoy my job, I need to find something full time with normal (9-5) hours. I hate working weekends. I want to be home with my family.

Awww, I like working nights, but it takes getting used to. I always worked night shift in some sort. I worked third shift or something similar to third shift for years. My brother is the same way.

With mine, I can't just look in the nest boxes, I have to dig through the bedding in the nest boxes.

Tell Cass that provided my girls are still laying and not brooding eggs, I'll be more than happy to get her some BBS eggs. In that pen, I have 7 ladies. 2 are youngsters, 1 is an old splash hen that I rescued, 1 is just "coming of age", and 3 are adult hens. Within the last 10 days, the 3 "experienced" ladies went broody on me. So right now, I'm not getting any eggs from that pen.

So the youngsters need to get with the program and start laying!

Good Morning!

I have a dilemma and need advice! This would all be fixed if one of you would take this little Polish from me. He is mean! I have seven new chicks that hatched out yesterday/day before. He is only five days older than these new babies. Thats it. He is a little shrimp. I cant put him in with the giants- they want to kill him. Those are two weeks older than him. However, he is grabbing the wings of the new little chicks, stomping on their heads, pecking them..if they go to eat, he runs over and pecks them in the eyes....it really is showing no signs of stopping. I put shiny marbles in the brooder to give him something else to peck at- I have miniature stuffed animals in there for him to "attack" and pick at their eyes instead- the mirror is in there. *sigh* Hatching and brooding is supposed to be fun, but now I am the "chick torturer".

Okay, I admit it. I was so upset about him twisting the wings of the little babies that I put it in with the older Giants...just for a few minutes. Just so instead of being the one doing the picking on, he was the one hiding in the corner. Didnt change his attitude any at all.

Seriously I didnt plan on having such a staggered hatch, but the eggs that hatched yesterday were not shipped when I expected them, and the Polish arrived days before them.

M2M...again, I wish you weren't so far away!

I love my Polish, and if (s)he were here, (s)he would eventually be with his kindred.

Sorry to hear of your troubles with him. Polish can be little stinkers. They're the one breed that give me the most work.

Shelley,

Some of the new chicks are also polish- and one is his/her twin! I just dont know how to get him/her off their high-horse and have it coexist nicely.

I wish you were closer too, because I am really at a loss as to what to do.

Hey, everyone... Just FYI, I'm putting an ad on CL today announcing that I have three yak calves for sale. Two out of our four babies from Idaho (who were supposed to all be bulls) turned out to be heifers. So I'm selling the two heifers with a bull calf as a breeder trio. They are approximately 8 months old. If anyone is interested, shoot me a pm.

They can be a headache sometimes, but so worth it if you can hang in there with them. They have lots of personality, and it's evident at hatch. As Vicki said, you can try to give it a few days to let the other chicks "grow up" a bit. But Polish can be very bad bullies, so you'll have to keep an eye on them. But with Polish, if the chicks you put them with are younger than they are, then the Polish chick's dominant personality will supercede the quantity of other chicks they're with. They just don't care how many younger chicks there are...they'll take on them all.

Good luck! Hang in there!

If they are broody, and you have partridge around then she'll probably be good with that too. I'll pass the word. We might be able to use some of Ms. Fluffy's eggs by then, but will just have to play it by ear.

M2M -- If you were closer I'd take him, but I think you can get through this. Isolate him for a couple days like Vicki said to give the other chicks a chance to grow up a little and try to reintroduce him to the "flock" again later. Hang in there!

Vicki -- Have fun at Disney!

Does anyone here raise peafowl? I have a couple questions and would like to get a breeding pair or a trio but am running into a bit of a snafu. I've found breeders in MI but from what I'm finding none are willing to part with chicks or eggs -- only adolescent birds or adults. *sigh* I've found out of state breeders who will sell chicks, but by the time I get enough chicks to ship I'm in a bit over my head number of birds wise and monetarily. I'd be willing to take straight run chicks and take my chances as to what I end up with... I'm specifically looking for India Blues. Help?
