Anyone in Michigan have American Buff or American Blue geese? I would love some goslings or eggs. May consider older birds.

Also, for a friend. Anyone have turkeys? Must be purebred (for 4-H) consider all breeds, poults or eggs, or possibly older birds. Must be reasonable.

Thanks fellow ganders!! :)

Most folks are leaving Michigan not moving to. The job situation here sucks right now. Hoping that turns around some day. Although I'm in Northern Michigan and I think it's worse than down state.

Everybody have a good day !!

Yes, the economy sucks big time. No houses moving , manufacturing company's leaving for China etc...
Michigan goes through good and bad times like every other state, so it's probably a good thing that Chickflick's GD is learning Chinese in school!!!

Houses are so cheap in my town it's ridiculous, but no one can sell anything. We had bought this place in 2000 as an interim step till we built our "retirement" house in Spruce on our hunting land and now there is no way we could sell it without losing our shirts.

The day the MI economy turns around means the whole country will be doing great. :|

Have patience. I'm completely confident that Michigan property values will increase greatly in the coming years. While the rest of the country is thirsty, WE HAVE WATER. And arable land. Mark my words: property owerns in sun-belt states (particularly the southwest) are in for a rude awakening. Their lifestyle is not sustainable. Michigan is the future!!

Yeah, if we can keep them from getting the Feds to pipe our water to them. Call me paranoid.

I love your hen house! It's so pretty. I have a question. You show the photo of hinged doors to keep the hens from pooping/sleeping in the nest boxes. When do you let them in the boxes? I assume these are not setting hens? I'm still trying to figure out what the inside of my future hen house is supposed to have, how many, and placement.

This stuff makes ducks seem sooo much easier to me!!!

thanks. Actually, I've never had to close the doors! But I can if I need to. My neighbors' chickens sleep in the nest boxes, and their nests are a poopy mess. I didn't want that. So far I've been lucky--my girls always sleep on the roost. When it was really frigid, I did close the top nest to conserve the girls' body heat inside the coop.

Thanks All for the welcome. I know I have it great in the UP but that cold sure makes me wonder LOL. The economy is tough and I am afraid it is going to get worse before better but something keeps me here. Could be my grandbabies (Hazel Rayne 3 and Arcamedies 1, yes Arcamedies LOL). I can not wait to see them with my future flock. My daughter is not happy that I have my granddaughter so interested in gardening and animals LOL. I will make a hobby farmer of her yet.

Steve the pic of the Red chicken coop under your name it that your coop or your dream coop jean in UP of MI

No the pic in the avatar is not mine.

I'd really like to build a smaller scale of it though. I will post pics of what i am building later on when it is done.... it looks nothing like the picture in the avatar though.

I drive around the country on my way to and from work and see coops like it,abandonded, hoping that someone would like me to haul it away. If I ever find that opportunity, I'll be bringing it home.

I know what you mean. Chickflick and I check out other people's outbuildings all the time. We could be driving down the road, having a serious conversation and still point and yell "GREAT COOP" at the same time.

When you build, make it as big as you can, including the run. You won't be sorry. I have found that free ranging is not a real good option (hawks, dogs) for me unless I am right there working in the yard
