Good Morning all-
Coffee's ready

My husband has gone to St. Helen for the weekend- fishing with his exfather-in-law and his brother. Im sure he is having a wonderful time. I am so exciting, I missed his good-night phone call last night because I was sound asleep by nine. lol.
While the hubby's away, the wife shall.....sleep.

Im getting ready to go walk my dog. The weather is nice enough for us to get some extra weight off- well, off of him. I apparently don't walk fast enough to do anything beneficial to myself. Must be the reason because I walked him regularly last year and didnt lose a pound. I love the morning, when the sun is just coming up- and nobody else is at the park. I would be afraid, but my dog is 106 pounds of big black pitbull and most people are afraid of him, even though he would probably just wag his tail while someone robbed me.

Chiropractor appointment this morning- then my daughter told my mother-in-law that she would go over there today and get all the boxes of shoes out from under her bed for her (new mattress being delivered on Tuesday- my mil cannot get down on the floor any longer to clean under her bed.) The reward? My daughter can have any of the shoes she likes. They wear close to the same size. My kid is going to be twelve and while I wouldnt think any shoes would be of the right fashion for her, she is very excited. Whatever works. "Grandma does NOT have any of those wheeled shoes, or name-brands that kids like".

I must go to the feed store for chicken feed today. I am completely out, and it is ridiculous. The wild birds have acquired a taste for the chicken feed and will empty the five gallon container in no time flat. My girls dont care, they will just allow the birds in and they come in flocks.

Sevenchickens and I are on what? Day Two? of our muscovy project. Its going to be a loooooonnnngg month.

I hope you all have a wonderful day- and its raining out there now, lots more mud in the making- but I will take that over snow, any day.

I had no idea wild birds would be brave enough to come down into a run. OMG could you imagine what kind of mess a flock of seagulls would make. One more reason to put a top on the new run.

Not only do wild birds make a mess in your feeders, they bring in all sort of disease and bugs. And the reason I only put my grower/layer feeds in the coops/buildings and toss my free range birds some scratch outside as a snack. As they eat what they want and the wild birds, especially the Blue Jays, clean up the rest.

It's a little depressing to wake to wet and windy when there was so much I wanted to do outside. I need to install two more nest boxes so I can get my birds separated by breed for the summer. Need to make a feed run myself before I run out. Even with the rain today it still is a good day.

I got the turkey eggs yesterday!

Angelo at MSU didn't have a full dozen so he gave me what he had for free. He had tons of other eggs too, including emu eggs.

Wow! Anyway I set 4 eggs under my black cochin, who looked surprised, but tucked them underneath her great fluffiness and I set 4 in my itty bitty Brinsea. Good news on the Brinsea - the eggs are rolling around like they should (I was worried they were too large, but they are only the size of a duck egg according to the egg charts.) Bad news on the cochin - she got up and left them to get cold overnight.

Now I have all my eggs in one... well, I don't need to say it now, do I?

Back from my two-mile walk with my dog- lol. It is amazing how much water this short-haired dog can hold. I should call him Sham WOW! We didnt melt, though it was a little chilly out there. The chickens had a scrambled egg treat, the children are eating their breakfast- and I am off to the chiro.
I think my feed store opens at noon- plenty of time for me to run to the pet store and get cat food and crickets. I think the chickens deserve a bug treat today, too. I want to pick up some small meal worms for my little chicks in the brooder. Someone sounded like they were trying to crow this morning- and they are way too young to prove to me that any would dare be MALE. I specifically told them, when they were eggs, that they must only hatch if they were female. How dare they be disobedient!

Good Morning!

I was refering to the hen running around the garage yesterday!

The hen seemed fine last night

When I was in high school, I wrote a paper on how I was going to be a successful business owner and not have any children. At the time I was babysitting for a family whose kids were terrible and I vowed NEVER to have kids!

Off to the feed store for chicken and rabbit feed. Wish it was nicer out today.....

Working just fine. Had a batch hatch the 9th and 10th all Isa browns. Have more hatching through April 1st Isa and blue eyed white guineas. I put an ad on CL for the guineas and have more orders than eggs at this point lol

Seems you have that dreaded chicken fever disease Susanne, we all get it at some point in time. Might as well ask your hubby to start building you another coop, cuz if you're anything like the rest of us here, you're sure gonna need it.

I picked up a beautiful Welsummer Roo yesterday from one of the members here that doesnt post to much. She lives right around the corner from me. She told me he was very aggressive and was afraid for her 6 yr old. So I said Id take him. Boy was this Roo shocked yesterday when he went to flock me as soon as I let him out of the carrier. Between Lexus (my dobe female) and I ...I highly doubt he'll pull that stunt again. Lexus does NOT tollerate aggression from the Roo's. Hopefully he took it as a lesson well learned? Ive put him in a 10 x 10 walk in cage thats 10 foot high for quarantine purpose. Only thing is the door opens to the inside so you dont have a whole lot of room to get out of their way. Think Im gonna wear sun glasses today when I go in to feed him as he sure can jump high LOL

WOO WOO the sun is trying to come out. You all enjoy your weekend and hopefully some of this mud will dry up soon.

I never cease to be amazed at the kindness and generousity of the folks I've met through BYC. On Opa's Place I had posted that the mentioning of emu eggs on this site got me to thinking about doing some scrimshaw and I posted some pictures of a pair of cow horns I had done. In almost know time easttxchick pms me wanting my address so she can send me some already blown and cleaned.
