Back from our walk- I am chilled to the bone. My dog and I took our usual walk, then I added a field adventure for him. He had to even the score with an old dead log that he hurt his foot on when everything was frozen solid. In the dead of winter, he tore his dewclaw trying to dig into that log...so today we returned to the scene of the crime and he demolished that log. Found an abandoned field mouse nest inside. Im sure he feels satisfied now.

My mood is better, but I still worry bout my ducklings-to-be...
Hubby called- he didnt catch ONE fish while he was out yesterday. I told him no sense in hurrying back here- nothing going on, he may as well enjoy himself before the four hour drive home. No rush to get home to a grumbly wife. lol.

I feel much better now that I got the walk out of the way. Ill feel even better when the coffee is done brewing.

What are all of your plans today on this cold nasty wet day?
I may take a drive to TSC. I didnt end up going to get chicken feed yesterday and my feed store is closed today. Darn it. If I go to TSC I MUST NOT look into the bins. I must not....

I'm also heading to TSC - with a blindfold and earplugs so as to not see the fuzzy cuteness nor hear the peeping. I'm not even thinking about chicks, but dang those ducks are so CUTE!

Got to get some shavings though and more oyster shell, so I'll try creeping around the perimeter of the store and staying away from the tubs!

I have an interesting phenomenon - my chickens seem to be taking turns sitting on the turkey eggs I put out on Friday. First, it was a cochin, then last night a welsummer, then this morning a buff orp and when I returned later this morning a different buff orp. Has anyone seen this before?
My husband said they are typical Ann Arbor chickens, you know, it takes a village...

Good Morning! Damp and windy out! My DH and Krisrose and I all went out for breakfast and Krisrose and I are going to the movies later. Seeing Shutter Island. I saw it before, but Krisrose hasn't. It's a good movie, worth seeing a 2nd time. Can't do anything outside, so mind as well go to the movies. Hope you have a great day!

Mom2emall- Don't worry about the power outage. Rachel went through that last year when we had a 3 day power outage in August. It happened in the night, didn't know til morning. Took the eggs out and took the incubator and the eggs to my folks down the road. Had to keep it in their garage and the temp wouldn't stay consistant, due to the sun and heating up the garage. Anyways- she had a 100% hatch- her only time out of 3 times incubating last year.

Rachel just put eggs in the bator. She is doing all the bantam eggs, I don't think some of the hens have met with the roo though. So we will see.

I forgot about the time change! Kept the kids up too late last night to be to church at 8am. So just went to Sunday school at 9:45am.

I just got back from TSC...

they will not have any chicks until March 30th, so I was spared the temptation...however, that said, they run a vaccine clinic there monthly- and that was today. AND it was almost impossible to get to the chicken feed and supplies- impossible with a cart, so I had to climb over the old returned batteries cart, grab a bag of layer crumbles and climb back over. People and dogs everywhere. i dont blame them- they were just standing in line- however, I think TSC should plan a little better, and re-route the line so that shoppers can still get in to the feed area of the store.

Im going to hope and try not to stress on my eggs until I candle them...in three days. When are you supposed to candle muscovy eggs? Since they take longer than other ducks, I have no idea when I should see anything.

For those on Facebook, you can view more pics, don't worry, I didn't put all 700 on there, but a few more than here.

The weather was fabulous all but Friday and Saturday when it rained, then we got flight delays on the way back and didn't arrive into Metro until 3:30 am and home until 5:30 am, so yesterday was spent mostly sleeping! Glad to be home though!

Hi, Vicki! Welcome Home!

Oopsy: Hehehe! So kind of you to take in and 'rehabilitate' that roo. Sure would have liked to have seen the expression on his face when Lexus gave him a lesson.

I ordered some Cayuga eggs recently, and put them in the bator last week, because my Cayuga girls had not started laying yet. Yesterday I threatened to introduce them to the freezer if they didn't start producing soon. Today, I got my first Cayuga egg. It was much darker than the Cauga eggs I had ordered. It was almost completely black on the outside, and when I washed it most of the black came off,e xposing a green egg underneath.

We sold our yak babies yesterday! The people who bought them sent me some pictures today. It's so cute-they're in a pasture with sheep, llamas, ducks and a Grand Pyrnese pup.

Vicky: Welcome home. Glad you all had such a wonderful time. And you'll have memories you will never forget neither will the children.

M2: Dont worry about the eggs I will bet they will be fine. CCF did an experiment of sorts with some pekin eggs that were frozen but not cracked yet. All 8 hatched. Then she put in some eggs that were at least 2 wks old, all are developing ..so seems you cant screw up a batch of duck eggs.

YakLady: Congrats on your Cayuga egg. That black must be the pigment from a young bird. That will be cool if you can get another dozen from them to put into the bator to hatch after your first batch. Speaking of the new Roo, this morning I opened the cage door to walk in and he tilted back like he was gonna get me, Lexus pushed her head around my knee ...LMAO he took one look at her and started pecking the ground like OH YOU DONT SEE ME DO YOU? I had to laugh. He's a hoot and thank gosh he's learning that Lexus rules the Roo's roost around here.

A2SciTeach:
How are your Cochins laying? Mine still haven't done a thing. Im waiting patiently for them tho. My 2 Roo's are doing their business cuz Ive caught them a few times in the last week or so. Now if only the gals would get down to business.

I picked up 3 Pekin ducks today as Im having a hard time finding Cayuga and I want to hatch ducks badly and daughter wont share her's LOL . I got a trio that are 1 1/2 yrs old given to me as they had too many ducks and wanted to thin down their flock. Very nice healthy birds.

Heres a pic of some of my Isa babies. They all have found wonderful new homes.

Hi everyone!! Haven't really been on in awhile -- too busy with work and the kids. Glad to hear everyone is doing good. Now that Spring is finally here, I have chicken fever sooo bad. Except DH gave me an ultimatum this weeken -- get chickens or keep the stray kitten I found!! That was a hard one, but not that bad. I kept the kitten. I can always get chicks, but I knew what would happen to the kitten. He's a black/grey tiger stripe tabby about 2 months old. He just showed up one day. My neighbor has long hair cats. I think someone dropped him off becsuse he was fairly healthy and not skinny. he is a real cuddle bug. Have a great day and hopefully everyone got a chance to enjoy the sun.
