Darn! We have one 3 year old and she's not laying much at all anymore. Think I might need to get a couple Ameracauna or EEs this year. Just love those colored eggs!

Well in 3 weeks I hope to have plenty more EEs just like these:

I had 4 of them hatch on Tuesday, and had full intentions of selling them. But alas...they're soooooo darn cute that I've decided to keep them.

They're from my blue wheaten Ameraucana rooster and a blue/beige EE hen.

AHHHHHHHHHH they are too cute!!!!!!! These are the only chicks we would do this year as I went overboard last year and had problems. I'll keep my eyes and ears open for when your next batch hatches

Thank you Sam. Unfortunately we sell eggs and no one wants the banty eggs because they are too small

Im getting ready to leave to take my mother-in-law to find out the results of her MRI and blood tests.

We encountered some wild turkeys the last time I rode my mare before selling her. We'll just say I walked halfway home -- and not very comfortably -- while DH and his horse galloped behind her to the barn and then he drove the truck back out to pick me up.

Now I have a gelding who can't be bothered to put that much energy into anything. And you know I'm not terribly fond of him on the ground as it pertains to our relationship. But he is one heck of a safe ride and seeing as though I don't bounce quite the way I once did... he's a keeper.

It was awfully cold and windy yesterday. Mother Nature seems to think this is Michigan or something.

I see the forecast is calling for near 70 degrees next week though. THAT I can live with.

These two ducklings we picked up last week at Family Farm & Home are our first experience with Rouens and I am impressed! They're robust, hardy and calm as can be. Now if we just get lucky enough for one of them to NOT be a drake.

I saw those cute little ducks at Family Farm & Home! Made me want one, but I resisted. When I went there this week to pick up the rest of my meaties. There was one duck in a special order bin that had it's head cocked funny and was constantly walking in circles. Is that wry neck? Poor little thing. Hope it made it out okay. Like I said it was set aside with another in the special order bin, hopefully someone could help it!

It could have been, but torticollis is also a symptom of other diseases in poultry -- like New Castle's, which honestly I am very inclined to believe the chicks I bought there had. I don't know. That's a big accusation to be making, I realize that, and my ducklings so far show no symptoms but the incubation can be 2-15 days depending on the individual so...

I guess all I'm really saying is that I would suggest you be extra vigilant about quarantine with the chicks you've got from there this year. Disease can happen anywhere at any time and we all know the risk is higher in a feed store setting, it's a risk I knew full-well when I brought them home from there so I'm not faulting the store at all. It happens...

Was checking the girls out this afternoon, and noticed a white cochin with a dark bottom. I scooped her and checked it out. Problems. The breeder I got these cochins from plucked all the feathers on their bottoms for breeding purposes. I have been concerned about these big red bottoms as targets for my girls , but so far everything seemed good. Their feathers are growing in nicely. Well this girl with the dark bottom, is all bloody. Its pretty bad. They really pecked at her. I washed her up and packed it with ag lime. She is in a molt. So I hope she heals fast and I can put her back out. This feels like Gabby all over again. I don't really want another house chicken and my husband says he'll give her a time to heal but if we cant get her back outside were taking her to the Amish so they can eat her.

Should I try blue Koat? Can you put that on an open wound? The Ag lime worked great healing Gabby, but this wound is older I think. I am putting poultry drench in her water.There was a lot of clotted blood in the feathers and around the wound. I am so p***** about this. Its a good thing we set the silkies up in the garage or I would have been buying another brooder.

I any one has any suggestions please let me know.

Dan, chicken addiction is a serious disease. I hope you are in for the long run.

Iluvcks, I have a bloody bottom roo who is finishing a very long molt. Those tail feathers just take forever. I used blu kote right on the wounds and corn starch as a coagulator. However, the others seems to have the habit of pecking at his rear. Last time out he was not bleeding at all and they still went after him. He is three weeks in a dog kennel out in the coop and the feathers are about 3 inches now. I wish I had some miracle advise for you. Best of luck.
