I look forward to going to chickenstock!
I'd offer to help but I don't want to commit to anything in case I can't make it... but I'm hoping to be there cause, I want to pick up a few silkies!

Opa, I think I remember seeing that pretty hen at YakLady's place. I went out a few weeks ago to see her yaks. The babies were SOOO cute! I'm hoping to get a few Yak myself next spring.

Thanks Mom 2 em all, I checked Shelly's website and she doesn't have any available at the moment. She sold those last chicks really fast. She still has a beautiful Lavender cochin rooster that I would love to buy if I didn't already have too many roos

By the way, Anyone want a D'Uccle roo? Looks like I have at least 2 around 5 weeks old, maybe 3 if one of the porcelains is a roo, as I suspect The other two look like Mille Fluer color. I got them at Family Farm and Home the first of March.
I will send her a note to ask when she might have more available. I was just wondering if anyone had gotten any from Destiny, as it looked like a nice place to visit for a Saturday drive this next weekend. There website looks pretty cool.
Can't wait for chickenstock. You all sound so nice

I read this thread everyday and feel like I already know some of you, just by reading it.

These are my two roos that I got from Destiny Farms. They're pet quality, but they're sweet boys. Turk, on the left, is a 4 1/2 month old Silkie x Sultan, and Dash, on the right, is 4 months old and Silkie straight. When I was there in January, all but one of her birds was white; the odd hen out was black.

Also, I remember someone asking about Speckled Sussex on here. I stopped at the Livestock auctions in Marlette after work today and picked up this:

A farmer in the flea market section had a small camper trailer/brooder filled with Isa Browns, Rhode Island Reds, and approximately 40 speckled sussex chicks. The one I bought is lighter than most of the SSu he had, but it has dainty legs and a small comb so I'm hoping for a girly. Probably hatchery quality, but that's fine by me.

The more I think about chicks for prizes the more I like it. So I think I'm going to try and hatch a few welsummers, bantam vorwerks, spangled hamburg bantams, and maybe som bantam blue orpingtons. Does anyone want to volunteer to run the egg toss?

Ya'll are lucky I don't raise hogs. Can you imagine how funny it would be having a greased pig contest for the kids and then letting the winner take it home. I could just see it, trying to explain why little Johnny can't keep a pig in the bathtub.

We had a double homicide here yesterday/ today.
THE loud hen that I had said I had to take to my brother in law because she was so loud- yet I had put it off- well, she made the fatal mistake of flying over the fence, yesterday while I had the wiener dog outside. In my haste to return to the hospital with my husband, I forgot to put the dog back in the house. The other three dogs dont mess with the hens. I didnt even know about the murder until last night. That scoundrel dog managed to bring a wing inside with her and stash it in her dog bed.

Then, the largest Polish chick- the one who had hatched five days ahead of the others was in the middle of my yard today dead. I dont understand how or why. They were all fine in their little fenced off area with the rabbit hutch/brooder..they were fed today- full feeder/waterer..everyone was doing fine but when I went back outside the poor thing was in the middle of the backyard- far far from where I have them kept. No dogs were out and not an obvious mark on his body. Im clueless.

I would want it! Good thing you dont raise them, indeed! I have a hard enough time hiding chickens much less a pig!

I just hope that someone has a splash bearded silkie pullet that I can get. I really want one.

Please give me some advice. Those silkie babies that I got about a month ago are almost all roosters i think. Like 7 out of 8. We would like to keep them and the neighbor doesnt care. They mostly belong to her girls anyway. BUT will that many roosters be fighting all the time? and will they be to hard on the one little girl? I do have 26 big hens if that could help preoccupy their time. What do you think?

I am not sure about that many silkie roos. My silkie roo is actually top roo or at least he THINKS he is. My big Buff Orp roo runs away from him, when chased. But he is the main daddy of all the chicks. The silkie roo only sired 2 out of 22 chicks. He tries really hard though.

I have read here on BYC that keeping all roos together is ok if there are no females to fight over. I don't know if that is good advice or not. I don't think I would try it.

As far as advice is concerned I can offer two different scenarios. One is what I believe will be the reality of to many roosters and the other would be the one people would like to hear. Without giving voice to either I'm sure you know what I think will be the end result.
