I have a few that have decided one corner of the coop makes a perfect nest. And I know several others who have had chickens who do the same thing. I've never had a problem with those eggs being broken. Just keep the litter in that corner extra clean so you're not having to wash eggs and it really shouldn't be a problem. Look on the bright side at least you know where to find her egg everyday.

She chooses a clean corner to lay in, somewhere they don't all hang around in when they decide to stay in the coop. We've been using the deep litter method, so I stir the litter often and add clean litter when it needs it. For a while she's been laying her eggs in the corner by their pop door after they are all let out into the run. That corner, of course, is farthest from my reach, blasted chicken.

So far none of the eggs have been dirty, and she doesn't stay around them too long, just drops the egg and leaves.
Maybe one of the others will take to using the nest box. I'll feel bad if they don't use it because BF worked hard on building the coop. Ungrateful chickens! *shakes fist*

Hi All!!!
I am still looking to rehome 4 of my pullets! I would hate to have to make dumplings out of them! They were all hatched on 3-30 and 3-31 of this year and are laying. I have 1 RIR, 2 GLW and 1 SLW! Anyone who knows anybody who would like them, could you please send them my way? Much appreciated!!!!

Tonight is lockdown for my little duck eggs. I cautiously asked DH how many EEs I should hatch out next just to see if I was going to be allowed to squeeze in another hatch before winter and he said however man I want!! So I'm just going to clean out my bator and keep it humming for another month!! I'm excited. My last EEs that I hatched out were adorable!! All different colored little chipmunks!

anyone who has followed the gargantuan poop and my discussions with Dr. Fulton from MSU and the reabsorbed fertilized egg.....well, the hen passed away today. Although she acted fairly normal, glad she is out of her situation....N

so....I let my chickens out of the coop like I always do when I'm outside and I started cleaning their coop. I look up and the stupid things are all over the place instead of right near me!!!

ARGH! So it got dark all the sudden and instead of coming back to the coop they start bedding down in the tall field grass!!

ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?! I've got them all back in the coop but two...and one of them is Radar, my favorite rooster. I'm hoping they'll be by the coop in the morning.

sometimes I'd like to strangle them.

They've been here since they were chicks and always just follow me but tonight they must've had a brain fart.
