quote = oopsey_daisy "You should see your Top Hats...they are a riot. They taught themselves to go into their pen at night in about 4 days. They come up to swim in the kiddie pool all day long. My geese still dont tollerate them in the pool at the same time, but at least there is no fighting. The drake just starting breeding this week so we should have eggs pretty soon. Thank you so much for allowing me to have them. They are the talk of our farm."

So glad you are enjoying the cresteds, Ooopsey! They really are dumb but their antics can't be beat. I laughed when I read a how it took them 4 days to figure out how to go into their pen at night - it took them forever to learn to walk up a ramp to get into the kiddie pool.

If you get a chance, can you post a picture of them? I'd love to see how they've filled out.

Those darn ladies outside gave me ONE egg today. ONE CHICKEN EGG!!

.. On a happier note, my ducks have been laying like CRAZY and I had over three dozen in my fridge. I was worried that they'd go to waste so I posted an ad on CL for them and someone actually answered me back! Yay! I sold all three dozen to her. I'm just hoping that I can have her as a regular customer bc I don't bake that often and DH doesn't like to eat them for breakfast, he says they're too rubbery for him.

The taste is more rich actually. The egg overall is more firm which makes it excellent for baking! The lady I'm selling the three dz to tomorrow actually makes her own mayo, so I want to get some of that from her, I'm excited for that. Of course the yolks are also bigger. I would say they're usually about half an ounce larger than a chicken egg= more nutrition.

I wish my one cayuga or my calls (although too young) would lay eggs. Out of about 15 egg layers, we get about 1 a day. NONE today! Saturday we got 3. Ugh! So frustrating. On a sad note, lost one of our Australops today. No idea why. She had been sounding weird since they day we got her, but she was eating and doing everything else fine.

I'm still quite sick so that's why I haven't been posting. It actually takes a LOT of energy to type sometimes. Something weird is going on with me but doc can't get to the bottom of it. It all started when I got my teeth pulled and it's only been getting worse. I've barely seen all my animals out there in 2 weeks!

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Oh, still looking for either a mallard (or welsh harlequin), top hat (or similar) or any laying hens.

Morning, Michiganians!

It's a beautiful day out there today. I spent the morning moving the boars to a fresh paddock, now I need to get back out there and seed the one they were in (it was poor quality so we let them over-graze it and root it up to be seeded for improvement purposes.) And I couldn't have asked for a better morning for it. The sunshine is beautiful and the temperature just right.

I need to get around to candling the eggs I've got in the bator but I never think of it at night when it's dark.

I guess, as long as they don't start stinkin'....

Hope everyone is having a great day!

They're overzealous, free ranging Pekins. I got them bc I thought they were cute and now I have eggs out the wazoo. Lol just let me know bc I always have them!

Just throwing this out there in case anyone in the lansing area can help me...and I won't go into the whole long story.

My husband did the "Get a Skill Get a Job" program through LCC and completed his CNC Machinist program...you know...that program that said they would get you a job. Well it's been since June 28th and still no job, which equals no income. If anyone in the Lansing area (or even within an hour drive time!) knows of a CNC machining job or ANY job that is hiring please message me at [email protected] I don't like posting things like this because I know everyone has it rough these days, but we're running out of stuff to sell!

So I'm putting my pride aside and asking for help!
Thanks for any help or ideas!

Would you have some hatching eggs in the spring? I LOVE ducks but I can't have them right now, my feed bill is enough as it is!

Good afternoon Michiganians,

It is a beautiful afternoon for the beginning of October. I live in the SE part of the state and was wondering if any of you know where I might find an avian vet in my area. It's always nice to know where there might be one in case I ever need one.

Thanks

Judy
