I went feet up this morning, landed in goose poop, spilled the scratch and hurt my arm. Slick as snot outside the door to the runs!
I salted the path outside the garage but didnt get by the coops.

Ouch Kristin, that sounds painful! Nothing slicker than goose poop!

ouch! I slipped and slid and managed to spread salt all over the place. Didnt melt all of it, but it did rough it up some for traction.

Kristin- right by the coops AND in goose poop? That adds insult to injury! hope you are okay.

I hope everyone has a Happy and safe New Year and 2011 will be a great year for all!

Y'all be careful walking out there on that slippery stuff.

Bad bruise on my arm and I swear Homer the gander was laughing at me! He made up for it this afternoon when he ate a piece of bread out of my hand

Olive...I'd take you up on it but i still don't have an incubator. Looks like they don't have calls and those are the only ducks I'm looking for. Actually, I only need 2-3 females and I should get something 6 months+

Well, I have two pieces of good news. One is it seems our rooster problem MAY be calming down. I hope. They still crowed a lot but not near as loud or as long in the day. Other thing is I think Gizmo has mended. However Jen I have a question. Can that med cause an eye infection? I meant to take pics of it yesterday but that eye issue he had last week is back. Last night it was hard as a rock in the corner and Aric took a warm washcloth to it and squeezed the white stuff out while I held him. It looked like curdled milk! He was so good about it so it must have felt really good. Any ideas?

Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable New Years eve. Rich, glad to see you are back among us. I'm ending the year on an upbeat. Went hunting this morning and 15 minutes after sunrise I had two nice does on the ground. Only five total for the year but considering how little I actually hunted and pretty lucky. As soon as the rain lets up a little I'll go out and skin them.

Hey Sam. Same to you and all here. Lousy season here. Early fall warm temps fostered a virus in the deer herd called blue tongue. Devastated the herd. Found three carcases on my property, nothing but bare bones and hide and neighbors reported the same all around me. the guy who farms mine said that while harvesting a 180 acre field nearby he had run over more than a hundred dead deer. Hunted hard the first six days of the firearm season and only saw three small does. No adults. Haven't hunted since as I don't want to diminish the herd further. Blue tongue swells up the deers tongue till they can;t eat or drink and eventually they suffocate. Friends say the virus is carried by flys that are usually killed after the first frost but this year that frost came late in the fall. Hence no venison for me. The way meat prices are climbing I'm considering raising a feeder pig in the spring.

Best wishes to all in 2011.
