I didn't realize they already had a date picked out for the next one! Guess I picked a good time to fire up the bater!!

I have to double check though...may have conflicting things going on that day. (rabbit shows will always come first)

I just saw it the other day when I sopped in. I know its a Sunday, and I don't have a new calender yet. That and i am too lazy to look it up online..... It was nasty cold, or at least it seemed that way. I think that there will be a lot of chicks and there is always some rabbits at the Saturday auction so I think its safe to say that there will be rabbits too. I'm hoping to get the word out to have a big showing there, and its 10 min from the house, and 10 min from Michigan Brewing Co.

So I used the pictures I found on another post to check out what the fertile eggs look like (i usually just put them in the bater but these hens started laying a month ago so I wanted to check) Found both of my baters and I'm going to try to set them up tonight so they'll be ready for Saturday!!

How long can the eggs sit at room temp before going in the bater? I usually collect for a week and leave them at room remp and then once they're all collected I put them in. Excited because I should have about 30 eggs for the first hatch!

Then will swap roo's and start another clutch.

The hatching I'm really looking forward to is my goslings. I've got 5 buff ladies and 1 blue lady for breeding this spring and I've got my fingers crossed for a good hatching season. I'd like to see 60 buff goslings on the ground here before they quit for the year. If anyone is interested in American Blue / American Lavender goslings let me know. I had intended to sell the pair last fall but my being nice got me in a pickle. Agreed to hold them without
payment for a guy who never could seem to make it to pick them up. Live
and learn. But since they're still here I may as well hatch some goslings, it just won't be in nearly the volume as the buffs unless I've got pre-orders, probably.

I'd also like to see my narragansetts get to laying soon. Come on, spring!

I am excited to get my first Pilgrim babies! Oh and turkey babies later, cause my girls are young, and seramas, wellies & BLRW of course. Oh and my first Welsh Harlequin babies too!

Oh and we are getting piggies this spring, I can't wait!!

I have a Marsh Roll-X automatic incubator and I have no idea how to use it. I've always used the kind that are styrofoam and you hand turn the eggs. I have instructions but it doesn't tell me exactly how to assemble the incubator. Here's a picture of it....any help? (sorry it's a bit dusty...hadn't cleaned it off yet! there's two different wire racks and a turner that gets plugged in...

If anyone in the Lansing area would be willing to come help me set this up and make sure everything works I'd be willing to pay gas!!!! I want to get my eggs in the bater by saturday or sunday at the latest...so I want to set this up Friday. I have humidity issues with my styrofoam bater and would rather use this one if it'll help the chicks hatch easier.

Wow, all of this talk of bators and eggs makes me wish I have an incubator!!! Don't think I can get one til summer when I'm hopefully healed enough to work. By the way, got the date for my surgery, it's Feb 3.

Speaking of eggs, we're up to 7 eggs most days now!! But for some reason it's like my ducks have all gone on strike. Do ducks not lay in winter?

No changes in Gizmo. He seems to be holding steady with whatever is wrong with him. So Jen, if nothing else, maybe that medication did at least that because no telling how bad he'd be if he hadn't had it. That's my thinking anyway.


My best friend has a HUGE old barn that finally fell. She said we're welcome to all the wood if we want it. Aric is a fantastic wood worker who can build anything. If anyone is interested in a chicken coop (he built a cute mini house for what was originally for the chickens now the ducks use it) or if you have anything else in mind. He's also going to be making really nice picture frames and I'll be framing some photos I've taken just for that reason. Since Aric can't find a job, I'm not allowed to work and my daughter's job ended in October we need to do what we can!
