I have a Black Sex Link, "Copper Top", spending the night in the house tonight. She had a "spa treatment", warm bath and gentle blow dry. I am sure she is egg bound as she has a tennis ball size bulge in her abdomen.

I was concerned about the weather. I have to say they seem fine. They were shipped from Meyer in Ohio to Michigan. It was an overnight trip. I turned on the heat lamp in the cage prior to leaving to pick them up at the Post Office. They were packaged with a hay/straw type of bedding that was stiff & a large hand warmer. I just checked on them and they are moving around the cage and not huddled under the lamp, so they must be fine. They are eating. I'm feeding Purina Medicated Chick Starter & Growth. They don't seem to be getting into the water just yet. I have a gallon in with them.....

Hello All, I was just informed about this very active Michigan Thread by Kev over in the Naked Neck Turken thread. I have lived in Cascade Township, just outside of Grand Rapids for the past 33 years and just became addicted to chickens a little over a year ago. I am looking forward to following everyone's posts from the great state of Michigan. I accidently took in a NN Turken awhile back (accidently because the lady told me it was a Buff Orpington with feathers missing due to an aggressive rooster) and now I love this breed and want more. Does anybody in West Michigan have any NN chicks or soon to hatch. Thanks in advance and look forward to hearing from some of you.

Welcome Farmer Andy-

I love NN also. i had a bantam that was brutally murdered by my ex-weiner dog, and I also had a standard but I gave her away at Chicken Stock.

Goofy birds, great broody mothers- no complaints at all about them, except my Standard was too loud for my secret backyard flock.

I have sizzle eggs coming. My incubator also has O-shamo eggs in it.

I am going to force Spring to hurry up.

Welcome Farmer Andy.....

Nice group of people that all enjoy their flocks of Chickens. Only been doing this since last March. My wife thinks I'm "Nuts". The hens give me less grief than she does. Love having the "Fresh Eggs" & I give them away to the kids for their families to enjoy. Her 2 dogs & 5 cats don't feed us......

0-Shamo are game chickens. They get to be 32 inches tall!!! The roosters wont tolerate other roosters, and will fight them- soo, I will have to rehome them to people who dont have a rooster but would like one, or someone who can keep them separated, or they will have to go to Freezer Camp. The hens make great mothers, and dont have to be kept separate from other hens in a flock with enough room. I just want a super-tall chicken that looks like a velociraptor . I think it will be very interesting.
If they hatch.

Thanks wishtofish, I to get a lot of grief for hanging with my girls, working on their coop and various other things. Believe it or not but I don't even eat the eggs my girls give me. Haven't ate eggs since I was a baby many moons ago. However my wife, kids, coworkers and friends sure do enjoy the fruits of the girls labor. Thanks for the welcome.
