Last night I decided to candle some eggs I have in the bator...even though I figured it would be too early to tell....kinda bummed because it looks like something wacked the bottoms of two of the silkie eggs we have in there.

There was a little divit and crack on the end of two. We still have quite a few in there and my first hatch is due this coming weekend.

I'm really looking forward to chickenstock and getting to see most of you and talk chickens!

We got sooooo much done yesterday!! Even though every five seconds we had to smack a skeeter!! Got the lawn mowed, outdoor rabbit hutches moved out by the barn instead of the house, one flowerbed weeded and several other things done!!!

Even succeeded in the start of one heck of a sexy farmers tan

I'm hoping to start building the new coop soon, but I need some help on the floor from some of you experiences coop builders! I want it to be 4ft x 8ft....so if I frame it out how many inches from the first board (which would be the frame) would I place my first support beam? And then how many inches for each one after that? I want to make sure this one lasts and that it's done right.

You know where I live......I only get to keep one lol

So I officially have 3, 2 more are about half way out and another one just pipped. It didn't help that the power was out for 6 hours last night, but the other 3 took over 48 hours.

I think my husband is more obsessed with the chickens than I. He picked up 4 chickens (already laying) from a friend and we got our first two eggs this weekend! Woot! They are fitting in with my young flock nicely. I was a little worried about the Rhode Island Red however. Yesterday morning she was just cryyyying. I thought maybe she was homesick so I shoved her back in the coop to have a little chat with her. To my surprise....HAHA...she needed to pass a very large (jumbo sized) egg. Ooops. She was super quite and content after that.

(I am soooo new at this)

All the stay at home moms bring their kiddies over to look at the chickens. Our backyard has become popular with the neighborhood. Hopefully that remains the same for a long time.

Yeah, we got 5 laying hens back in November I think. So we are still fairly new to it. Happy to be breakin the law

Thanks Keyt for the pictures, they are great! I was going to put some of our pullets outside today but its sooo windy and rainy and chilly, I decided to wait for another warm day (should have done it yesterday)

I still cant seem to keep my 3mo old nubian out of the henhouse, I dont know if she just likes the company or what. I figure eventually she will be too big to fit through the door...She was sleeping in there this morning with a chicken sleeping on her back lol. I wish I had a camera with me.

Oh I plan on it! (It's hush money/currency)

Actually, I asked my neighbors and they were cool with it. I told them i would pay them off with eggs.

They were very cool with that. LOL plus my coop provides entertainment for the kiddies. I am sure that my next home will be a smally hobby farm...absolutely.

That was a heck of a storm that just rolled through here. I was mowing the front under sunny skies when it got dark as night. Thunder, lightning, bucks of rain and hail the size of marbles.
Went running for the back to take care of the little ones. Big chicks went in to the garage but the 4 week olds were in a separate pen that I had to breech to get them. At least they were huddled in the tipped over water trough and dry. Scooped them all into a bucket and took them in to the brooder. Poop little girls were scared.

Of course the ducks were running everywhere except for the coop. Finally got them in the garage. I need to work on my flock management skills.

Looks like I'll being doing an extra load of laundry today. I got soaked running that duck marathon.
